Maedhros's smile was returned brightly as Ariel finished her tune and transitioned to the one her mother used to sing to her when she was a child. She knew very few songs in full, so the two were her defaults, but she liked them and they meant something more to her than the songs of this world ever could.
When his hum moved into lyrics, Ariel paused to listen, wondering what language it was when she recognized at least that it wasn't English. She watched through the slightly murky surface of the water and smiled, a little awestruck at the way the fish huddled around his hand. She remembered when they used to do that to her back home, swimming gleefully around her head to join her in song and she missed it. Ariel ignored the melancholy pull in her heart as Maedhros invited her to do the same.
Tentatively, Ariel scooted forward and lowered one of her hands into the water, holding her fingers still and wincing slightly when the gesture frightened a few of the fish swarming around Maedhros's hand. "Sorry," she whispered. But, she didn't move; Ariel waited and closed her eyes, thinking of the day she met Flounder and the time Sebastian wrangled half of the kingdom to tell her how much better it was to live under the sea than up on the land. She was attempting to focus that energy and project it outward, to connect with the fish; to let them know that she was one of them still, at heart.
[ooc: OMG I am so sorry, things got crazy last week and I lost this tag in the shuffle somewhere :( Just found it]
