Despite herself and the situation, Emma gave a smile, reassuring smile. This made her wish she'd gotten to meet the Belle from her world, to make the comparisons between them. The girl was so smart, so logical. She handled the whole thing loads better than Emma herself had. But then, if she was Disney's Belle, she'd been dealing with an actual Beast and enchanted household objects. She had no choice but to believe in magic where Emma... She'd been about as cynical as physically possible.
"You'll do fine here if you keep up that mindset. Life has its difficult moments, but there's good things in it, too. You might find you'll settle in well here. Or else you'll hate it and complain. But you won't know unless you face it head on."
Wise words for someone who hadn't settled in at all until she'd ended up in a mess bigger than she knew how to get out of. Now she really didn't have much of a choice.
At Belle's comment on the complex, she gave a little shrug. "Some of these people have been here a very long time. They know how difficult it is, showing up here with nothing." And she'd been quite content to follow their lead. Until she'd ruined it, of course. "They offer shelter, a shelter protected from demons and the like. There's food, too, and some supplies to get you started. You'll be safe there." She pulled out her cell phone, knowing Belle wouldn't have a clue what it was for. But she would soon enough. Twenty-first century technology would, eventually, become common place. She sent out a quick note, seeing if anyone in the Complex would be able to watch over the young girl. Obviously she couldn't. What were her options? She couldn't go to the complex without raising a fair amount of eyebrows. And she couldn't possibly take her home.
Love him though she may, keeping any and all fairytales under Jim's radar seemed the best bet. Showing up with a genuine storybook character in their home could work in her favor, perhaps. But it could also work against her. And Emma wouldn't take that risk.
