Plenty of Lawrence's residents would not be caught dead out at night by themselves wandering through the city. But Emma knew she was rarely, if ever, actually alone. It had been an unsettling feeling the first few weeks. It was slowly getting easier to deal with but it took some effort. Sometimes she still felt like she wasn't trusted and that was not exactly her favorite feeling, but one she was getting used to in Lawrence. Besides, she was used to looking out for herself.
Now she just had other people looking out for her, too.
So she continued to work, despite the constant reassurances that she didn't have to. She liked what she did. And yeah, she did realize the level of hypocrisy to it, but there was enough of a difference between the people she brought in and the man she went home to that she didn't take notice really. And she did her best work late at night so if she wasn't in any immediate danger of being snatched up by demons or snipers, why not?
She was cutting through the by then familiar park when she saw the girl. Her dress was definitely old-fashioned and her manner was...off. Emma sighed to herself for a moment before stepping closer and asking if the girl was okay. She kept her distance at first...who knew what this city would throw at them and she really didn't want to be vaporized by a terrified young woman with some unnatural powers. But when she didn't answer at first, the part of Emma that still desperately cared for other people reached out, placing a hand on the younger woman's arm when her eyes opened. "Hey... It's okay. Are you all right?"
