Luke winced, and started to answer, started to give the truth. Which was not what Jacen thought, but not something he needed to know either. Luke sighed, and rubbed his face.
"For what it's worth, that was a mistake on my part, and I am sorry." Jacen had earned the rank and earned his place, and life had been too... no no excuses. Luke had simply not seen it. For a moment, he felt very old.
"I'd be glad to do anything I can help. Not as a Jedi, or a grandmaster, or even as your uncle, though I am proud of that. But simply because it is the right thing to do. You always had good senses. I have not talked to Jaina, nor this Gabriel, but I will, in time, I'm sure." He rubbed his face again.
He stuck out a hand quite openly, palm up. "I'd be proud to fight alongside you, Jacen, as I did with your father. With you there, I would always know my back would be safe."
