"No problem," he replied as she took the water and sipped at it. She seemed to be prefacing with the statement about monsters which Priestly thought was a rather interesting segue, but he'd roll with it. "Uh, yeah. Yeah, I'd say so at this point, yes," he agreed with a small smile that didn't quite meet his eyes as he thought of the plastic men walking around shooting up the town outside. The picture he'd taken on his phone must've been well timed because he managed to get out of the mall again without actually seeing the apparent gunfire he'd been hearing about.
Priestly watched her face as Amy started to tell her story. Vampires...he'd always thought that shit was in the movies but he also never thought he'd see department store dummies walking around like real people, either. So, he took it for what it was and let her keep talking.
The more she spoke, the more upset she looked and Priestly saw the tear just as she seemed to feel it. He shifted and started to move to brush it away but Amy beat him to the punch, so his hand settled back into his lap.
"Damn, Ames, you weren't kidding about it being some heavy shit..." he said slowly. "I'd fuckin' have nightmares, too," he admitted and it was true; the very thought of having been in her shoes made his skin break out in goosebumps, the hairs on his arms and the back of his neck standing up.
She just looked so upset, like she was afraid he would be afraid of her or disgusted by her, that Priestly couldn't just sit there. He moved his hand again up out of his lap and to cup the side of her face lightly over her hair. "It's over now, though. Right? So...it was just a dream. No vampires here. No plastic walking freaks, no demons, no vampires. Not in my place," he assured her, dropping his hand back down and resting it on the bed beside himself. "Anyway, if there was, I'd have some serious ass to kick. I don't like intruders," he added lightly, cracking a small smile in hopes of lightening the mood for her a little.
