"Thank you." She gave a smile, taking the glass of water in her hands and then taking a sip from it. It felt good going down. The coolness seemed to pull her out of the state of mind she'd been in. She wasn't sure if all of that was from the water or if part of it was having someone like Priestly around to listen to her troubles.
"By now you're probably a little more accepting of the idea that there are monsters in some worlds." Amy looked up at him. She felt a need to start her story that way. Most people would have been hesitant to believe in monsters. She knew for sure that she hadn't believed in the existence of monsters prior to the incident with Jerry. What a shock that had been, finding out that vampires existed beyond movies and books.
"I had a run in with a monster." Her voice shook just slightly. The nightmare was still fresh in her mind and it made her uneasy all over again. "A vampire." Amy took another sip of water, looking for a reason to pause her story.
"I'll give you the Cliff's Notes version of the whole thing." She looked up at Priestly for a moment before looking back down to her glass. "He cornered me, tried to get me to willingly take his blood, but I wouldn't. I tried to get away... We were surrounded by people, but they were too drunk or stoned to really care..." Amy drifted off. She wasn't aware that she was crying until she felt a tear traveling down her cheek. Almost impatiently she dashed it away with her hand, a little embarrassed to have Priestly seeing her react in such a way.
"For a whole night I was a vampire. I was a monster." She sniffed. "The one who turned me, he was staked with a special stake... The vampires he had turned, we all became human again, but..." Amy shook her head. It was difficult getting through the story, but it felt cathartic. "I see him in my nightmares. I see myself, too, but as a vampire."
Amy had a look on her face like she was desperately hoping he would understand. She hoped that he still saw her the same way as he'd seen her before she'd shared her story.
