Bruce Banner has embraced the monster. ([info]monsterdoc) wrote in [info]wariscoming,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:bruce banner/hulk, elphaba

Characters: Bruce Banner and Elphaba
When: Evening
Location: A field between two buildings, near a major road
Warnings/Rating: TBD
Summary: Bruce Banner arrives, faces his inner demon, and then tries to find out what is going on.
Status: Closed and Complete.

One moment, he was in the lab, and the next, well, there he was. He was standing in the middle of a field, staring at a plant where his lab counter had once been. Shock swept over him, and his pulse began to pound, and Bruce stumbled backward, nearly jumping in surprise. Typically, he fell on his ass, then. Since he had joined the Avengers, he had seen a lot of things, but this was... uhm... what was this, anyway? Long distance teleportation? But why to a field? And a field located in... somewhere? Bruce glanced around, confused, seeing cars pass, and people going about their business, and none of them looking at the man dressed in a lab coat who had just fallen on his butt in a field in the middle of their midst.

His puzzlement ad sheer curiosity were so far, winning the war against his stress level and heart beat, which were both calling for the Other Guy to come out now. He glanced around for somewhere better, but seeing nothing and being ignored anyway, he sat down in the field and closed his eyes. With slow deep breaths, he pushed himself down into meditation, letting the surroundings fade away, and his mind fill with peace. The peace of anger. His mind, his heart, and his soul, seethed with rage. Rage ay all the things that plagued him. Rage at how many people sought to use him. Rage at all the things that happened to him against his will. Unending, uncomplicated, and unstoppable rage. The stress and the peace fought, and it was not a short battle, but eventually, the peace won.

With a deep breath, deeper than the others, he rose and dusted himself off, then started walking, looking for answers, and for some sort of clue as to what was going on.

Elphaba had been beside herself since Galinda had been sent back to their world. It was really a good thing she still had Elena, otherwise she might have just given up on caring. This place truly knew how to break someone's spirit piece by piece. Loss was not something Elphaba was a stranger to, not by a long shot. But having Elena was really the difference between her losing it and just brooding. But today she'd made an effort to get outside for a while. True it had been to go to the library and spend a few hours there immersed in books, but she was out of the house at least. Elena should be proud of that fact. The only other times she'd left the house since Galinda had left was for Elena's graduation and the book club meeting.

Once she'd felt she'd spent enough time at the library to be considered having been out among people long enough and before she ended up taking the entire library home with her, Elphaba checked out five books to take home with her. She then made her way back to her house, the books cradled against her chest. One thing that would never truly leave her was her love for reading and her thirst for knowledge. She could at least just lose herself within books for a while when she needed to ignore the pain of reality.

The normally green-skinned witch was currently using a spell to change her skin color to a normal color. After all, she'd learned quickly that the average person in this world didn't take kindly to someone that had green skin. She was forever grateful to Bonnie who had originally written the spell for her and taught her how to cast it. She should be able to make it back to her house before the spell wore off. Or at least that was the plan.

Her eyes glued to the ground, she did not notice the man in front of her. She ran into him and stumbled, dropping the books in her arms, but she didn't fall herself.

"Oh sweet Oz, I am so sorry! I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," she apologized quickly, kneeling down to collect her books. She then looked up at the man, her long black hair was partially pulled back, keeping it out of her face. "Are you all right?" Really, she should know to watch where she was going by now.

Bruce was lost in his own world, trying to calculate where he was and look for some answers. He felt lost and cold and a little annoyed. The world had once more played one of it many practical jokes on him, and he felt that this was just a little much. He was used to waking up post-Hulk in odd places, but without even an incident? This was pushing it.

The sudden impact of a woman into him was enough to bowl Bruce over significantly, and make him startled utterly. He lay there, staring at her for only a moment before old habits kicked in. His heartbeat had pounded for a long moment, but stilled, and he smiled, for she seemed hardly a threat, and some small chivalry in him demanded he held her. Moving, he did his best to help her collect her things, and he smiled faintly at her question.

"No, but my problems aren't from your impact, ma'am. Just having a really odd day." He nodded to her, and figured that would be the end of it. Most people with any sense would probably run from a strange man in a lab coat who even had his identification card still on, hanging from it's clip.

So not paying attention to things around her was something she did frequently, especially when she was carrying books, but she hadn't gone and run into someone like this for a long time. Elphaba felt a bit embarrassed by this turn of events. Really, she should have paid attention to where she was going. If anything, she would certainly pay attention to things the rest of the day.

As the man helped her collect her books, she noticed he was wearing a labcoat and had an identification card. It was perhaps strange to see someone wearing both outside of wherever it was they worked, but Elphaba wasn't exactly unsettled about it. After all, there were all sorts of people around this place, and one didn't exactly have a choice about how they were brought here. This was, of course, assuming the man had been brought here by the Seal.

"Tell me about it, most days around here are odd," she commented with a slight chuckle, though it was a half-hearted one. And for some reason, she felt like seeing if she could help him in any way. After all, she had run into him, it would be the least she could do. "Anything I could potentially help with? After running you down, I should try to make up for it." That is what normal people did after all.

He smiled at her a little, and raised an eyebrow. Most people wouldn't offer such a thing, unless... could she be affected by something similar. He examined her again, eyes sweeping over her, curious. "Know something about sidereal temporal-spactial slips?" He offered the question in a joking fashion, sure she would simply look at him and think him crazy.

He often felt he was crazy anyway, so it would not be new. And with someone else feeling that way, well, that wasn't new either. he glanced around. "Where am I?" If she was going to think he was crazy, he had nothing to lose, right?

"And, er, when?"

All right, so Elphaba hadn't exactly heard anyone put it quite like that, but she was smart enough to understand what he was saying. Therefore she didn't look at him like he was crazy. Instead, she nodded a bit. "I'm not an expert, but yes, along the lines of suddenly having your surroundings change due to some unseen force." So it wasn't Elphaba's area of expertise, but she did read a lot on a variety of subjects.

At his questions, Elphaba gave him a bit of an awkward smile. "You are in Lawrence, Kansas. And the answer to your second may be a shock to you and you may think I'm crazy, but there is definitely an explanation for it. Though the explanation will probably make me seem even crazier, but we will see. Anyway, it is May 27, 2012." She looked at him, wondering how he would take that. Some people that just arrived here were used to time changes like that, but not everyone was. Soon enough she would know if he was one who was used to it or not.

"Do you need a further explanation or do you need a minute to digest that?" Elphaba was definitely the type who could ramble without letting anyone else get a word in edgewise, but she was trying to be better about that. And she certainly hoped that this man would appreciate that she was allowing him time to take in what the date was if he needed it.

Bruce blinked. Huh. Idea confirmed, She was definitely a misplaced person as well. He smiled to her, and was curious as to her words, especially when she continued. He sighed. From New York to Kansas, in two seconds flat, by means unknown, and into the past by a year, or less, really. Damn it.

He smiled lopsided at her. "So I lost something close to six months, maybe. Time travel backward, and spatial travel, simultaneously. I take it this has happened to a number of people?" He was curious of course. The level of power required for one such event was immense. Depending on how often it had happened... wow.

"Please. I would like to know more, like... did you come through such a event?" He rubbed his chin, watching her. Curiouser and curiouser.

Now the fact that he was seemingly curious about things instead of freaking out about it was interesting, but helped Elphaba relax. After all, she didn't really handle people who freaked out very well. Well, not in this instance. She did know how to handle Galinda when she would freak out, but that was something else entirely.

As he mentioned having traveled backwards in time, Elphaba was curious about that. In her experience with this world, most people seemed to be from the past to varying degrees. Then there were some who were from different places all together that had different methods of date keeping, so it was difficult to tell whether they traveled forward or backwards in time. Such as was Elphaba's case. Nodding at his question, Elphaba smiled slightly. "Yeah, a lot of people, actually. More than you may believe at first."

"I did, yes. The place I come from is completely different from here, though. But the basics of how and why you're here are that there is an Apocalypse happening here. I don't know if you're religious or not, but it is the Apocalypse as is depicted in the Christian Bible. There are Seals that are keeping Lucifer caged, but they are being systematically broken to let him out. It is through these Seals that people like you and me are pulled here. No one really knows how or why, but the best we can surmise is that it's some sort of magic that is not under anyone's control." She paused, then suddenly blushed slightly. "Oh uh, sorry, forgive my manners. My name is Elphaba Thropp," she finally introduced herself a bit awkwardly.

Bruce rubbed his chest, idly remembering his glasses in one pocket and the sonic probe in the other. Hmm. He watched her and smiled a little. She seemed likely to be well-thinking, the way she talked, and he liked her attitude already.

"Sounds like this place is trying to give my world a run for it's money in the doing of the weird things. We just weathered an interdimensional and interplanetary invasion about six months or so ago. It was... interesting." He wondered what drew others here, and why the rift would grab them from, he assumed, different places, and maybe different times? Yes, that would make sense. The way she spoke the date, and her look at him. Hmmmm. Yes, a spatial and temporal randomized portal? That was bad news.

He snapped his attention back to her as she continued to speak. His eyes were warm and full of compassion as he listened to her, fixed on hers to understand her words. "Ah, good old mythology. Always fun. Hmmm. So... is there a central place? A command center, or a place where people gather? I think I will probably need to set up nearby there. And I'll need a lab if I am going to get people back home." He spoke with confidence and with curiosity.

Her words at the end, made him blush as well. With a lopsided smile he sketched her a bow. "I too, forget my manners. I'm sorry. Not used to introducing myself anymore. I'm Doctor Bruce Banner. It's a pleasure to meet you, Elphaba."

Inside, he was fighting a battle against stress levels and against his darker half. This whole thing, this whole event and happening was making him shiver deep down, making him unsure, and he wanted, he needed, to stay in control. He did not want to, as they said, 'Hulk out'. Not here, and not now.

Elphaba chuckled slightly at his comment about this place giving his world a run for it's money. "That is not even the half of it, let me tell you. Though I have to say we have not had an interdimensional or interplanetary invasion in my experience here. But anything and everything can be brought here because of the Seal. Sometimes it can send us to alternate universes of the one we come from. And that is all on top of the Apocalypse." Which, really, made fighting that much more difficult because they had more than one evil to contend with sometimes. But Elphaba had grown used to it in the year and a half she'd been here.

At his question of a central place, Elphaba nodded. "Yes, there's a complex a lot of people stay in. It is free and is for those like us. Though some, like myself, live in our own places. I have a house I live in with a friend. As for getting a lab, I wouldn't know how to get that. There are some who have jobs within law enforcement, so they might perhaps be able to help you get a lab? Or at the very least they would be able to point you in the right direction." Elphaba hadn't exactly paid attention to those sorts of things in this place because she never really needed to.

At least she wasn't the only one to forget to introduce herself." It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Bruce. I just tend to be awkward around people in general. I'm getting a bit better about it, though. People never really were my thing. Books and animals were." But being here in Lawrence had started to change that. She'd made friends, started letting herself open up to people. Granted most of those people were gone now, but she still had Elena, and she knew Elena and Galinda would want her to make friends, to not close herself off. So that was one reason she was going to be helpful to Bruce as much as she could be.

Bruce nodded, and sighed. "Sounds like a place with a few issues, but... you seem not overly alarmed by it all." He viewed her, curious, and with growing respect. What made someone look at all of this with such calmness and with such, well, sureness? She seemed utterly unaffected in his eyes, though he had just met her. And he liked that.

Bruce nodded again, listening to her. "Thank you. I think I would definitely be lost without someone who knows what is going on here." He took a deep breath, controlling his anger at this turn of events, and pressing all of his worries down, all of his stress, and nodded a third time.

"I know the feeling. I am not someone who likes to be around people a lot. Too dangerous. I have a... condition. Too much stress makes things bad. And like them or not, people cause stress." Which was a completely white washing way of not really explaining his situation.

He offered her his hand, grinning a little. "I have a feeling this place and this world may be daunting, but that with people like you around, I can navigate it." His smile and his voice was gentle, mild-mannered, and he felt like he had a chance here. Maybe.

The only reason Elphaba was as calm as she was about it was because she'd adjusted to this place and the things that could happen here. "I used to be alarmed, and took things hard. But after being here for a year and a half, one just learns to go with the flow." It sometimes didn't take people long to adjust to this place, especially if they were used to weird things happening in their own worlds.

"You're welcome. It is lucky that someone in the know happened by. Or ran into you, actually." Elphaba smiled a bit wider. Smiling was coming to her more naturally now, which undoubtedly had been Galinda's influence as well as Elena's. Not that she was complaining about that now.

Elphaba relaxed even further upon hearing Bruce wasn't so comfortable around people either. At least she wasn't the only one. Though when he mentioned having a condition, Elphaba tilted her head slightly in curiosity. "I am sorry that you have a condition like that. I sort of have one too that ostracized me in my own world. The people I have met here, however, have been more accepting." She didn't mind that he wasn't specific, but she hoped that offering her own vague response would help put him at ease.

At the offered hand, Elphaba sort of looked at it for a moment, not used to the gesture, but after a moment, she reached out and took his hand. "It isn't so difficult to get a handle on this place. I can show you to the complex, if you'd like? Oh, and I should tell you there is a communication board we all use on the internet to communicate, but evil can read it too. So if you wish to post on the board, you should filter against evil so Lucifer and his demons can't read it. And you should also filter against Jim Moriarty, who is from some Sherlock Holmes stories, though not exactly as the books depict him. There is also a vampire named Katherine who isn't nice. And she looks exactly like my friend Elena, so just be warned of that. Katherine and Elena are actual dopplegangers from their world, but there are people who look exactly alike but are from different realities. So do not be alarmed if you see more than one person with the same appearance."

Bruce nodded. "Makes sense to me." It was the only right response, really. Otherwise, you would go mad. At least he felt it so.

"I am glad of it. You are being rather helpful. It's nice to have such a person around, really." He offered her a thankful grin, eyes dancing. he liked when people were welcoming and not... trapping, screaming, and the like.

He smiled to her words. "Perhaps mine will be easier to accept then, as well, but it is less... it's more of a thing that causes problems, not just for me, but for others."

He nodded. And sighed. Bleh. Thinking about the other guy was annoying at best, and depressing at worst. But he never could free his mind of the Hulk, ever.

Shaking her hand, then he smiled to her and then let go, nodding as she spoke. "Oh? Hmmm. How does one find it?" He blinked... "Er, how does one filter versus evil?" The next name made him stare. "Professor Moriarty? For real?" He stared at her and swallowed. Huhn. This might take more getting used to than he thought.

"Dopplegangers, huh? Strange, but normal compared to the rest. Sounds like a real party."

At least Elphaba didn't have to explain that further. But people always had an ability to adapt to things one way or another. And really, nothing was surprising her anymore after the things she'd been through and experienced here.

Again, Elphaba blushed a bit. She was still not used to getting such compliments, especially from people she didn't know. A bit of a shy smile curved her lips. "You're welcome. I know how confusing it is to suddenly find yourself where you shouldn't be." And really, Elphaba liked being helpful. There was also the fact she was trying to compensate for having been blackmailed into helping Moriarty, but she'd at least gotten away from him finally.

Conditions causing problems. Oh really, Bruce didn't know how much Elphaba understood that. "Believe me, I understand that better than you may think. I mean, I'm a witch and before I knew how to control my magic, I would inadvertently hurt people with it. My father was embarrassed by it, but also because I'm not normal." Really it was strange to say such things to someone she'd only just met but she felt that Bruce would understand. Which is why she felt she could reveal her little secret to him. "This is not my normal skin color. I use a spell to change it to what people consider normal when I go out in public here."

Elphaba returned the smile and the handshake. "I can take you there, it isn't too far from here, actually. I wouldn't mind doing so." At his question of filtering against evil, she just smiled a bit. "It's kind of self-explanatory once you see the site, but there's basically a place when you're writing your post where you can add filters against people you don't want reading it." When he had that reaction to Moriarty, she nodded. "Yes, him. Though he's not a professor, so he's not exactly as the books described him. But he is no less dangerous. There are also people here who are fictional. Like myself, actually." Though she stopped short of revealing who this world thought she was.

"Oh it is a party, let me tell you," she laughed. "Sometimes it can be hard to keep people straight when they have dopplegangers."

He nodded to her, smiling a bit still. "It sounds like I will have a lot to learn. Thank you for helping me." She was being rather remarkably helpful, and he was grateful. The more help he got now, the less stress later, and the less chance the Other Guy would show up. Better for all.

"You do understand. Thank you." He smiled softly. "My own is similar. When I get mad, or stressed out, things happen, and people get hurt. Sometimes, now, I can control it, to guide it, but all too often, it happens when I don't want it to. So i try to avoid stress as much as possible." His smile widened. "Something you are helping with, so I am rather grateful for that."

Normally he was less expressive, but she had brought out a sort of giddiness in him, and he was glad to see it. He had long ago thought it gone.

"Again, thanks." He blinked. "So, people are real, but fictional. So... does this place make fictional people real, or does this place make fictional accounts of real people's lives before bringing them here?" It was a valid question to him.

"You're welcome. There is a lot to learn, but it doesn't take very long. You just sort of learn to go with the flow of this place." It did feel good to help people, and she had the sneaking suspicion that if Elena was here she'd be proud of her. "I'll take you to the complex, follow me." With that, she double checked she had all of the books from the library, then started heading towards the complex.

Listening to his explanation of his condition, she nodded in understanding. "I'm glad that I can be of some help in that regard. Sometimes it is difficult to keep control. Even though I have a better grasp on it now, sometimes when I get really upset I lose control of my telekinesis." She did still feel bad about having thrown Elena out the window quite a while back. At least she hadn't had any repeat performances of that lately.

"It makes fictional people real." She didn't even have to stop to think about that answer. "Sherlock Holmes is here, as well. And people would probably better know me as the Wicked Witch of the West. Though that didn't get my life right. The musical Wicked is a more accurate depiction of my life." Really she had no reason to keep that secret, and sooner or later Bruce would figure it out, if he knew The Wizard of Oz at all. And she wasn't sure how much longer her spell had before it wore off, so in the event it did wear off and her skin suddenly reverted back to its normal green tone it wouldn't be a sudden shock to him.

Bruce took in all she said, and nodded, intrigued. Her answer as to who she was made him blink, then stare for a moment, then smile. "Well, it sounds like I am in good company then." He nodded to her.

"I have a feeling this is going to be a whole new adventure." A question came to him and he blinked, then chuckled. "In the--- aren't you supposed to be green?"

He knew a dozen ways she could appear normal, but he was curious as to her response. "I like green." He spoke softly, quietly. He didn't want to throw her off, after all. That would be rude.

He glanced at her. "Did you get training, here, for your telekinesis?" He was curious about that, too. Not that he was sure he could help anyone, with his own issues, but he did not like seeing people hurting. Ever.

"Nothing wrong with new adventures, right? Well, as long as they are fun sometimes and not just completely bad or something." At his question of her being green, she nodded. "Yeah, I am green. I'm just using a spell to turn my skin a normal color. I learned early on that most people in this place take badly to someone with green skin." At his comment of liking green, she smiled a bit shyly. Again, that was not something she tended to hear. "I like green, too. Though it took me years to embrace it." After all, it wasn't until Galinda had dedicated herself to being Elphaba's friend that someone didn't think she was an abomination.

"Not so much in the studying with someone. A friend got me into yoga and I've been working on meditating to help keep me calm. So far those have worked." It was good that she hadn't had an episode in a while, though she'd gotten close a few times. She looked at Bruce. "How about you? How do you try to keep yourself from hurting people?" She was rather curious about Bruce and about how accepting he seemed to be. After all, people tended to take badly to her if she said she was the Wicked Witch of the West. Which she really wasn't, but that didn't seem to matter to some people.

"Absolutely." He smiled at her. He rubbed his face as he listened to her. "I'm glad. When my condition takes hold, I get very green." Which was an understatement, really.

"Mostly meditation, and embracing the condition, embracing the truth of it, and what it means about me. And, I don't always. Sometimes, people still get hurt." He looked down, walking in silence for a moment. "Sometimes, I can't stop it or control it at all." He shivered at the idea, and wished he could.

Upon hearing Bruce turned green sometimes, Elphaba felt a sense of camaraderie and she smiled a bit. "Well at least I won't be the only completely green person around here?" There had been others before that had drastically different skin color, but as of right now, Elphaba was fairly certain she was the only one with that. And now with Bruce and his condition that turned him green, she wasn't the only one. Elphaba did like that, having someone else that understood and someone who would accept her without fearing her or hating her simply because she was different.

Elphaba listened to him, frowning slightly. "I know how that is, that sometimes people get hurt when we do not wish them to. But as long as we can do everything we can to control ourselves, to keep from hurting others, then we have to give ourselves that credit, even if someone gets hurt in the end." She was trying to be helpful, which was something that she was trying to become better at doing. "You do try to control it, so you can't fault yourself. You at least try. Some people do not even try."

He smiled at her and nodded to her words. She had a very nice smile, and a good point. Perhaps in a place that was used to such the Hulk would not be so out of place. "It is the best color, I think, to be. Others would be lucky to match the tone." he joked to her and winked to her.

Her words sobered him and he nodded, and sighed a little. "I know and I agree. It is just... hard, sometimes." He shivered a little as they walked. "I have to hold myself accountable, though. I try to give myself credit for trying to stop it, but the fault is still mine."

Bruce was grateful to her, though and he smiled at her with that in his eyes, wishing he was better at saying such things.

Oh Bruce really was lucky that Galinda wasn't here. No doubt she'd try to get his green self dressed in pink as well. "It took me years to think so, but green isn't so bad. Even green is hard to match tones with, but I have a friend that insists pink goes good with green." Elphaba chuckled softly, though there was a twinge of sadness within her eyes. It hadn't been that long since Galinda got sent back home, and she really missed her.

"True, the fault still belongs. That can never truly be erased, no matter what." Elphaba knew that well. How many people had she hurt when she'd flown off the handle? Yes people had forgiven her, but she knew it was her fault. She'd still done those things. But it was a learning experience. "You can still take a lesson from it, though. Try to figure out how to better stop it the next time."

Elphaba looked at him, reading the intent behind the smile and the look in his eyes. She responded with a smile of her own and a nod. He wasn't the only one that wasn't good with words sometimes.

Bruce would have staunchly resisted that. Bleh! He would rather just hang out with Elphaba. She was turning out to be pleasant company indeed. "I don't think my other self would be entirely happy with pink.

Bruce nodded, and smiled softly to her. Here was someone who understood! He had forgotten what that felt like; really, actually being understood. It took his breath for a moment, and he found himself actually having to blink away a tear or two. Damn. "You are very right. And it helps when you have someone willing to be there as a friend."

He nodded to her, smiling, walking with more confidence now. The evening seemed less dark, and the place less strange.

"I wasn't exactly happy with pink either," Elphaba confessed. She still didn't like pink much, but she'd gotten used to Galinda dressing her in it. And as much as she disliked it, she currently did miss that. She missed Galinda. As much as it did dampen her mood, she was trying not to let it show. She could brood later when she was home.

Bruce was entirely right. It was always easier when there was a friend there to help. She nodded, a little smile on her lips as she glanced at him. "It does help to have a friend, that is for certain." It had taken her most of her life to realize the value of friends. Then again, no one had ever taken the time to be her friend until Galinda had come into her life.

Elphaba noticed the growing confidence in the way Bruce walked and she smiled a bit. It was good to see that. this place could definitely be completely disorienting at first. Speaking of which, something just popped into her head that she'd forgotten to mention.

"Oh, I almost forgot. The demons in this world can possess people. At the complex you can get an amulet that will protect you from that. You just need to remember to wear it at all times when you are outside the complex." She glanced up and took in where they were. They were almost at the complex, just another block or two.

Bruce nodded, and grinned a little. "I can imagine. Few people seem to." He listened to her and smiled. She was an interesting person and he was glad she had been there. She, personally. She was someone he definitely wanted to learn about.

"Demons can possess... hmmm. Not a good thing. I'll have to see if I can come up with a way to block that, myself." He smiled at her. "Thanks." He glanced ahead. "What does this complex look like?"

"Just be glad Galinda isn't here right now to have heard you say that. Otherwise she'd either cover you in pink glitter or try to make you wear pink." Elphaba chuckled a bit at the thought. It was rather an amusing thought, and the sight of Bruce covered in pink glitter was quite amusing. All ready she was liking Bruce, and while making friends was sometimes an awkward experience for her, she was wanting to get to know Bruce better.

"The only way I know how to protect against being possessed is to either wear the amulet, or get the design of the pendent tattooed on you, but it has to be exactly correct otherwise it won't work." Taking hold of the chain around her neck, Elphaba pulled the amulet out from under the collar of the dress she wore and showed him the pendent. "It looks like this. Maybe going for the tattoo would be better for you so you don't have to wear a necklace if you don't want to?" She offered helpfully. At the question of what the complex looked like, Elphaba was about to describe it when it came into view. "Actually, it's that building right there." She pointed it out to him.

"I'd have to object to that, either choice." He chuckled and grinned at her, and shook his head. "I think pink would look bad on me, and glitter worse." He nodded to her.

"A tattoo wouldn't work. I'd heal it off when I changed. Because of my condition." He nodded to her, though. "Interesting design. I'll get one and see what I can do." He might be able to create an energy matrix like that.

He glanced forward, then smiled at her. "Excellent! Thank you!" He felt himself filled with hope. Half an hour in a new city and no changed or explosions! Maybe there was hope!

"Smart man. Very, very smart man." Elphaba grinned a bit, sharing his sentiment completely. "You have nothing to fear in that regard, though." Unless the Seal decided to send Galinda back here, but the likelihood of that was quite non-existent.

Elphaba nodded a bit, slipping the amulet back under her collar. "I'm sure you'll figure something out. And if you can't, there are those who can try. And if everything else fails, I could try to magically put it on you." Though Elphaba was wary to try such a thing. She'd never done something like that before, and she was always nervous about trying out new spells because she wasn't certain if they'd work or not.

"You're very welcome. I'm glad I could be of help." She smiled back at him.

Bruce gave her a bow and a wink. "Why, thank you." He smiled at her. "Well, if she were here, I would deal, I suppose, since she seems like your friend." He nodded. He already felt a touch of trust for this woman.

He blinked and nodded. "We'll see what happens. Perhaps we can work on it together." He would like that. He hadn't worked with a magic user before. He was sure he would learn a lot!

"Where do I go to get a room? And you have been an excellent help." His smile was warm, and he felt rather calm. He hoped this place would let him have some peace and quiet to deal with all of this.

Unable to help herself, Elphaba laughed a bit at the bow and wink. She wasn't used to such things, but there it was. "Galinda is my best friend. And really, it is best to just go with the flow. But you don't have to worry about that unless the Seal decides to bring her back here."

Working on it together. Well, there was something to that, Elphaba had to admit. She knew she needed to work more with others, perhaps this would be an opportunity? "I would like that if it comes to it." She smiled at him. There was a lot to be learned from working with others.

"Uh I think there's some place on the main floor when you go in where you can get that straightened out. Otherwise you can just take any apartment that's open? There should be a list saying who lives in what room somewhere. But here is where we get out of my comfort zone. I have never lived in the complex, and when I've been in it, I never quite paid attention to that part of it." She smiled a bit awkwardly and scratched the back of her head. "So I'm sorry to say you'll have to find out that part of it for yourself?"

"It's good to have friends, really." He smiled at her. "I have learned, in my life, that there are always possibilities." He wagged a finger at her. "Never give up, and so on."

He nodded to her, and he smiled at her. "Thank you, again. Seems I am thanking you a lot." He felt she was a very nice and very helpful person. And he was lucky to have run into her.

"No worries." He smiled at her again. He stuck out his hand as they reached the complex. "Thank you, Elphaba. You have made this arrival a lot less stressful than it could have been. You have given me a lot to think about, too." He smiled wider.

As he wagged his finger at her, Elphaba gave him a salute in response. "Yes, sir. No giving up. Got it." And well, wasn't that something she'd learned since being in this place? That anything could happen at any given time? And not to mention, the Seal had sent Elena home once and it had brought her back. Perhaps it would do the same with Galinda at some point.

"Perhaps you might be, but I don't mind." Rather she wasn't used to being thanked in such a manner. Yes her friends had said as much when she'd helped them, but everyone else? Not so much.

When he extended his hand, she reached out and shook it, returning his smile. "I am glad I was able to be of help. And a less stressful arrival is most certainly a good thing. I hope you settle in all right. I know it can take a little while to properly digest it all."

He shook her hand, and smiled, then nodded. "Thank you." He glanced at the building, and squared his shoulders. "No time like the present, I guess."

He started forward, moving away from her a little, almost tensing, as if he expected something bad to happen. and maybe somewhere deep inside he did. When he opened the door and stepped in, and nothing did, he felt tension slide away from him. Maybe, just maybe, this would be okay. Glancing back to wave, he headed in, to try to find his way, and a new beginning for a new world.
