She wasn't talking, that alone was enough for concern. Then again he had been told sometimes he talked too much. His mouth had gotten him in trouble in the past, so for the time being all he did was hold her as she started to cry. Normally when girls cried Iolaus was the first to find an exit, but this was Gabrielle. She wasn't crying because her sandal broke, or she'd lost a game. Something real had happened, he knew exactly who she traveled with and who had likely brought it all down onto her shoulders. It only made the distaste for Xena grow a little. Sure he'd forgiven her for driving a wedge between him and Hercules and using him, but hurting Gabrielle was something he wasn't sure he could forgive her for.
So for a long while he just let her cry and touched her head comfortingly. "It'll be okay." He said again as he held her. For the first time he noticed the people around them starting to stop and stare. "Come with me." He took her by the hand and started to lead her away from a nosy group of onlookers back toward the complex and his room with Hercules.
"We'll be safe where we're going." With any luck Hercules would be sleeping or out. Knowing his friend he was probably waiting up for him though. Which made him eyeroll a little to himself at the thought. Hercules was like an older brother to him, but he knew Gabrielle wasn't exactly in an entertaining mood.
