He could do this. He was ready. It had taken Mark a long time to come to that conclusion. It had been a really rocky road. Maureen had pretty much stomped on his heart and he'd decided long ago that it was okay to be alone. He was getting pretty good at it, until Roger had called him out. And before he'd really had time to think about it, he'd ended up there. And a girl on a motorcycle decked out in leather had forced her way into his life.
She was completely wrong for him. A part of him still stuck to that. But recent events had put a lot into perspective. Not only his future, though that was huge. Seeing a world where he, of all people, could be happily married with kids to a woman he'd tried so hard not to fall for? Definitely a big issue. But also the last week. Nearly losing Roger, seeing Faith so sick, seeing all of their friends falling apart? Throw in an advice column response that he'd deny he wrote if asked but there it was in black and white?
If he kept denying himself, then he was an idiot.
So he'd bribed her. A fancy dinner out, not many women would turn that down. And he wouldn't turn down the chance to make her look her best. Because Faith Lehane could put on a garbage sack and look amazing, but he couldn't deny wanting to see her dressed up. Besides, this was big. Major. If she even still wanted to be with him.
There was wine, nice food, soft music... Mark couldn't have planned it better. He might not have been the most romantic person going, but he could damn sure try.
"You definitely look like you're feeling better," he offered, smiling across the table at Faith. Though even with the flu he'd found her attractive. That had to be a sign, right?
