Katherine watched him, his body language, every last detail she could take in. She was studying him for her own intents and purposes, but she made it look far more worried and concerned than she felt.
"What?" she asked softly, hoping to prod whatever it was he was hesitating about out of him. "What is it?"
And there it was. Meant for Elena, and meaning significantly less considering the specific Salvatore it was uttered from, but it was something, and that was always better than nothing. "Damon...." she bit her lip. What could she say? She didn't know the details of Elena's life here as she had last time she pretended to be her back in Mystic Falls.
Finally, she looked up at him, fingertips just barely grazing his cheek to turn his face towards her own. "You know I care about you, Damon. So much. But...Don't just tell me that because you think you're dying...tell me because...you're going to do something about it when you live through this." It was a risk. A big one, but...if she could have this intimate little moment, something that he could hold onto, she could use it against him later.
