Who: Emily Lake with a touch of Helena at the end What: Learning that you didn't actually exist until a certain someone went crazy and got Janus Coined is a traumatic experience. When: Right now Where: Closet in Helena's apartment. Because Myka locked Emily in it. Warning: Pretty low
Really, she'd lost track of how long she'd been in the closet. Granted Emily had fallen asleep for a while. Or at least she'd thought she'd slept. She'd dreamt, which didn't happen when Helena was apparently in control. Which meant she'd been the dominant personality for quite a while. And really, couldn't Myka let her out all ready? She'd been quiet for the past few hours, maybe longer, she couldn't tell how much time had passed. She did briefly wonder if Myka even remembered she was in here. Though it wasn't like Emily was sitting there waiting for the agent to come let her out. Her mind was far, far away, lost within the whirlwind of thoughts that had started after she'd read the letter Helena had written her.
Was that really all she was? The remnants of someone who had once been H. G. Wells? Was that really why she'd had no memory when she woke up in that room with that strange coin in her hand? So what, that meant she'd technically only existed for a handful of months? A year at most? How was that fair? Well it certainly explained why Myka and Pete had found her in the first place, if she actually was what was left of H. G. Wells. But she was more than that. She was a human being in her own right. She had her own memories, thoughts, feelings. She was Emily Hannah Lake, and she had a life.
Yet even as she thought about it, she couldn't help the fact that tears were welling up in her eyes. The more she thought about it, the more things made sense. Why she had absolutely no family. Why she had no friends from before her "accident." It explained why every once in a while, she'd felt things in her life didn't make sense, but she'd never dwelled on them. After all, she was recovering from an accident, it was to be expected that things didn't make sense. But now, things just suddenly made so much sense. Now she knew why people kept calling her Helena or H. G. People she'd never even met before. They all knew Helena. And now no doubt they viewed Emily as the intruder on this. After all, wasn't Helena the one that had been there first?
Sniffing, Emily leaned her head against the wall, unable to stop herself from crying. Why had her life turned out like this? It wasn't fair at all. She'd never done anything! And yet she existed because Helena had done bad things, and this was deemed the better end result for her. How was it better if Emily now knew the truth? And the fact this wasn't even her own body? It belonged to someone else, someone who really shouldn't even be alive, or even looking the way she looked, now. She really wanted Dickens. Emily really could use her cuddly cat who sometimes seemed to be her only friend and the only one who didn't think she was weird because she was "recovering her memory." Dickens never judged her. All he did was love her and let her love him.
But she didn't have anything, or really anyone, to comfort her now. Which was probably her own doing because all she'd done was yell at and blame Myka for everything. And that was really why she was locked in the closet in the first place. Emily knew she could be a bitch sometimes, and she'd demonstrated that ever so wonderfully recently. It was really difficult wrapping her mind around this. Oh she was trying. It was the main reason she'd been so quiet lately. She was trying to digest it. After all, it was hard to explain why it was suddenly late April in 2012 when it had just been October in 2011. It also explained why she was suddenly in Kansas, and why Sykes wasn't here threatening her death and then shoving a coin into her hand. That must have been what Helena had called the Janus Coin.
Not bothering to mask her crying, Emily was too busy being lost in her thoughts to notice the headache that had come on. She drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, burying her face in her arms. God, this was too much. It was one thing to find out about Helena and the Janus Coin and the Warehouse. It was quite another to find out about being in the middle of an Apocalypse. Perhaps it was all starting to sink in, but Emily could only focus on the part regarding herself. She wasn't a fighter, so she didn't exactly care to focus on the Apocalypse or the demons or whatever was currently going on.
Then suddenly, things went black as Emily's consciousness was overtaken by Helena's. Blinking, Helena looked around, wondering where the Hell she was. Clothes. Her clothes. Okay. She was in the closet. Apparently. She reached up and attempted to push the door open, but it didn't budge. All right, so she was locked in. Not that a simple lock could stop her. Getting up on her knees, Helena tested the door and studied the lock from the inside. After a few attempts, she managed to jimmy the door open. Standing up, she stepped out of the closet and looked at the time. All right, she'd been unconscious for at least a few hours. That's when she noticed the headache. Rubbing her forehead, she walked out of the bedroom and headed to the bathroom to find some aspirin. It wasn't a bad headache, but it was prominent enough to warrant some aspirin. Then there would be tea. And food, she was really hungry, apparently.
But half way through the living room, she noticed there were tears on her cheeks and she stopped. Using her fingers, she wiped a few away and looked in confusion at the liquid on them. All right, apparently Emily had been crying. What exactly had happened? She glanced over at Myka, merely quirking an eyebrow. She needn't ask, she figured Emily had said or done something to earn that.
Right. Aspirin. Because Helena wasn't going to sit and have a headache for longer than necessary.
