It was Abby. Of course she would try to say she was fine even when she wasn't. Especially in a situation like this, though it wasn't getting any better and probably with the stress of the conversation, would only get worse. Then again, she wasn't too concerned on her appearances at the moment given the whole... traveled to another dimension and apparently facing the biblical apocalypse and all. That was a bit more pressing than having the flu and not looking her best.
It was more than disappointment if Abby were honest with herself. Because there had been so much shared in those three years that separated them. Anger and love and trust and understanding. Connor had always been there and she had grown used to that, had accepted that he was always there and that it wouldn't be like all the foster families she'd gone through. Get used to them, trust them, only to be thrown to some family who hurt her. But he had been gone to him for a year almost.... and things changed. Oh how they changed.
But they had real love. She knew it. Because of everything they had gone through. Did it even count now? Did it matter?
Hearing the words though? Hearing him verify that they weren't together, not for him.... it tore into her more than she even realized was possible. She had faced losing him, had lost it. Had been willing to go into a building that was to explode just to try and get to him. Had followed him to the future when told to stay back.
"I see."
Two words, but she felt the ground beneath her moving, trying to throw her off balance. She didn't note the shaking in her voice, all she knew was she felt cold. Because the thing she had feared would happen did just that. Oh, the circumstances were far from normal. It wasn't her agreeing to go out with him and then him changing his mind and leaving her behind. But the fact remained, things still changed. And she was left behind all over again. Suppressing a cough, the blond just looked down at the mention of Cutter's death. Even after three years, it still hurt.
But then he was talking about characters from Star Wars and Abby looked up at him in confusion and just quirked a brow. After all, it wasn't like they were real. Maybe this was a fever dream after all.
"Right.. of course you are..."
Of course Connor would be best friends with a super hero. But then he stopped and looked at her seriously. And what he said made no sense. How were they...
"....You're joking. You have to be..." But there was no crack in the serious expression. No sign that he was just trying to mess with her because she was sick. "Or not. We're on the telly... brilliant, really.. .just..." Shaking her head, Abby started walking quickly even though she had no idea where she was going. Because this entire conversation was beyond weird. She could take a lot, had taken a lot... but all of this at one time? How was she supposed to respond to that? Especially when the one person who was always there... was, well, there, but not because he was from a different point and things would have changed because they always changed and she had been a fool after all?
