Connor would always save Rex for Abby. Whatever it took. Whether it was dealing with pteranadons or calling in army backup or springing him from Lawrence City Jail. Or, apparently, giving him a container of oxygen. That little lizard was his best friend's pride and joy and she loved him. Probably more than she loved Connor but he'd come to terms with that eventually. Rex made her happy and he would never, ever let her be sad if he could help it.
Then Abby was coughing, and he looked up in alarm. Had they done something to her? Or was she ill? He didn't think he remembered a time when she'd been sick. Maybe it was the time during the Cretaceous, that period of awesomeness (now that he knew they'd survived) that he'd missed. That would make sense.
Oh, hell. He'd have to explain to Abby that they were considered fictional characters here. Awkward. "No," he pointed out. "Not work related. Possibly even more crazy." Which would tell her instantly how serious it was. What was more crazy than rips in time linking their world to the past or the future? "Indecent exposure, though, Abs? Really?"
He opened his mouth to continue when a man carrying one of those little carriers used for cats came out. He looked really annoyed and Connor smirked, remembering how Rex could react if he didn't like someone. Caroline had learned that the hard way. Though the reminder of her wasn't something he really needed just then.
"Come on," he told her, accepting the carrier and allowing Abby to pull her friend out. "We'll talk more on the way. I've got a place you guys can stay."
