Connor had gotten so caught up in his 'save Rex' mission that he didn't hear the footsteps of someone coming in. And when he glanced up, he nearly dropped the phone in his hand. He wasn't ready. Not really. For one, he thought he'd never see her again. Except for the telly. Which...was still odd but he was getting there. And for two, he was still terrified of what was about to happen.
It only took a glance at her to know where she was from on the timeline of 'Connor's Coworker/Flatmate/Best Friend/Girlfriend/Fiance'. Well. Okay, no, he'd need a little more clarification. But the Abby he'd left had worn her hair incredibly short (and still somehow sexy). And the Abby from before his time had worn it longer but still short and sassy. This one, though... Oh, he'd seen 'his' show. This was the woman who'd lived through a year in the Cretaceous. The one who'd dealt with things he hadn't and would likely look down on him for it.
And this one had spent a year by his side, as his girlfriend and probably a whole lot more. And he...hadn't even kissed her yet. Brilliant.
Abby didn't even have a clue how little could be said in front of the guards. His eyes drifted in their direction and he shrugged. "Thanks, guys," he offered, like he was in there every day. "And the exotic lizard? Think you'll find he belongs to her?"
He'd clicked submit the second before the guard could go to the computer and start pulling up information. And he'd find proof of ownership under Abby's name as well as an updated vet certificate. The man looked not only annoyed at having another task to do but surprised. "All you had to do was ask," Connor said a bit smugly.
He waited, then, glancing over at Abby occasionally while they went to retrieve the animal in question. And he'd be lying if he said he wouldn't be almost as happy to see Rex as he was to see his gorgeous blonde owner. "So...hi. Crazy stuff, huh?"
Really? Nearly a year apart and that was the best he could manage?
