When the door opened, Helena had not expected to be greeted by one of the twins. So she was caught a bit off-guard when she looked down to see the macaroni-clad boy staring up at her. While she was initially shocked, she quickly smiled warmly.
"Why hello there, young man," she greeted. Though she looked up to see Darcy coming after him when she heard her calling. Well, this certainly was quite the greeting. But Helena did not mind. She actually found it a bit endearing, and largely amusing. She was extremely fond of children and was good with them, something that wasn't a surprise to those that knew she was a mother herself. When the boy Darcy was carrying was suddenly cut off in what he was saying, Helena arched an eyebrow in curiosity. That was indeed quite intriguing as children had a knack for saying things without filtering it.
"Thank you Darcy, and do not worry. I completely understand." She stepped inside, moving away from the door so Darcy could close it. Oh she well knew how children could be, though having two at the same time was more than daunting to her. Christina had been more than enough of a handful to her, but to have two boys the same age? Helena couldn't help but feel compassion and empathy for Darcy. Though she was only bemused upon watching Darcy give out the time out order to Clark. "Oh it's quite all right, children have a marvelous way of throwing off even the most prepared of us, don't they?" She followed Darcy into the living room, and she took a seat as Darcy went off to clean Conner up.
As Clark stared at her, Helena could only smile. She did wonder if either of the boys would mention her accent, but she wouldn't be offended if they did. She rather liked the way children interacted with the world. It was so honest and refreshing, and it made Helena reconnect with the maternal part of herself she had thought she lost so long ago. At Clark's question, she nodded. "My name is Helena, and I am a friend of your mother's." Well, friend in the making, but children didn't need such complicated answers. "And your name is Clark?" She smiled warmly, trying to find some middle ground for them.
As both boys became occupied with their toy, Helena looked over to Darcy and smiled. "Oh no need to apologize, truly. I have been there before." True it was mostly because Christina had refused to get dressed or stop playing with her dolls long enough for Helena to make her presentable, but she knew how children could throw off even the best planned schedules. "That sounds like a perfect plan. I rather think there might be a slight disaster waiting to happen if we let down our watch too soon. But should something occur, at least you have an extra set of hands and eyes on hand to help?" Helena offered with a warm smile. She had no qualms in helping out if she had to.
