Truthfully, it wasn't much of an idea. Even Anatoly knew that. But they really did need to get something on Molokov. Because all Anatoly had right now were the pieces of the smashed chess pieces, pictures of Svetlana and the girls, and the dead flowers. This wasn't exactly concrete evidence Molokov was doing illegal things, it was just proof someone was being a creepy stalker. For Anatoly, Svetlana and Freddie, it was obvious who was behind this. But the authorities here didn't know Molokov the way they did, so it was a patchwork plan to get some sort of evidence to get something moving right away to take the bastard down.
Following Freddie out to his car, Anatoly nodded. "For that, I am grateful. It is refreshing to be in a place where something can actually be done to stop this." Yes it was still strange, and yes Anatoly was still trying to trust the authorities in this place, even the ones that had been displaced as he had been, but he was finding he was turning to them more easily now. If Molokov had shown up even a few months prior, Anatoly would have found some way to handle this without even getting help from the authorities. But now? He'd really take any help he could get. Even if meant forging a strange alliance with a man he detested.
He got in the car and direct Freddie to the school. Anatoly kept his eyes open for any trace of Molokov. Chances were he was probably going to leave the school soon, if he was even still there, but Anatoly had compiled a list in his head of the possible places the man would hang around in Lawrence. He knew Molokov and the kinds of places he liked to spend time in when he had nothing better to do, or was just biding time. If they came up with nothing at the school, they would move on to those places.
And then Freddie was trying to make conversation. Well, at least it was about chess in general and not about the past they shared. For now.
"The Israeli seems to have a lack for the creative side, but he's got a tactical mind. The Indian will need to use every bit of his creativity to break through the Israeli's defenses." While Anatoly was not going to ever pursue a competitive chess career here, he still did keep some tabs on what was going on in that world. He hadn't done much since things had started compounding on him and Svetlana of late, but he had done a little research before.
