He chuckled softly at her exclaimation. "It's kind of the way I've been for a...very long time. You get used to anything after the right amount of time passes." Most things, anyway. Some things, he wasn't sure he'd ever get used to.

"I help people. Some such as yourself, who are displaced, and others who have special circumstances that render them unable to go to proper authorities for help..." That was vague, but perhaps, for now, it would be enough to suffice.
