The sound of Ellie talking to the camcorder that she had sat in front of herself was almost comforting. Hearing that her friend was there and safe. She could feel, as well as hear, Homer next to her. She knew Chris had already dozed off on the other side of the campfire, and Robyn was sitting over there with him, she'd been quite ever since she'd shot one of the soldiers earlier. Fi couldn't blame her, she hadn't had the strength to do the same as of yet, but she was sure that she would have to work up her courage at some point. Maybe she'd freeze and she'd get shot instead because she was wrong about how ready she was. Or maybe she'd get shot even after she managed to gather her strength. It wasn't all that pleasant to think about. Fi shook a little bit and closed her eyes. Her energy had been waning for a while. She was tired. Her mind wasn't shutting down just yet, but her eyes were closed. She was comforted by the familiar sounds from her friends.
After a few moments she was startled out of her relaxed state by the sound of...an engine? Her eyes sprang open more quickly than they ever had before. She almost fainted from the sight around her. There was a road. There were people, people that weren't her friends! Fi's heart started to race in fear and she looked around, wide eyed and confused. Somehow she was sitting on a park bench. This didn't make any sense! She had just been in Hell, just past Taylor's Stitch! That valley and the mountain....that was definitely not a city. And then there was the fact that this place didn't look like Wirrawee at all! Fi sotod up, feeling completely self conscious. She couldn't help herself, she pulled her glasses out of her pocket and stuck them on her face, looking around and taking everything in. She had never been so confused in her life.
"Ellie!" She hollered, looking around, following it up with a cry of, "Homer?" Alas there was no response and she got a few looks from the passerby. Fi began to move automatically, some mix between scared and confused! After she'd been walking for a few moments she found herself wandering into a coffee shop. Maybe someone could help her? She got weird looks upon walking into the coffee shop. It probably had a great deal to do with the fact that her hair was looking rather dirty and messy, and then there was the dirt that was on her face, and the fact that her clothes were wrinkled and not the cleanest either. The man at the counter didn't seem overly excited to talk to her either. Fi tried to force herself not to blush as she stopped at the counter. "Excuse me, um," she felt herself turn left and right, a nervous habit of her's, "Could you tell me where I am?" He looked at the blond girl like she had grown another head.
"You're in Lawrence, Kansas." Fi's eyes might've popped out of her face at that point, actually. She wasn't sure what she said, but he proceeded to tell her about this site online that tourists and people that got lost here seemed to use a lot. Fi exited the shop a few long moments later, her hand pulling her cellphone out of her pocket. It had been useless in Hell, but she could clearly see that it....actually had signal and everything here. Her first action was an attempt to call her mother, which did not work. The second was an attempt to call Ellie, which did not work again. Only after she had tried those things did she use her phone to get online, deciding she would attempt to use this....board thing that had been mentioned.
