The Doctor was nervous, with at least one heart in his throat, but he managed to make a show of looking perfectly at ease in what he had taken to calling their control room. Oh, it was Nine's as well, but the point was, this was the control room Rose first saw, the place where he first told her he wasn't human, the catwalk where he first stood, just inside the TARDIS doors, and invited Rose to come along. It's the place where they laughed and danced, where, after the whole mess with the Beast, he caught her up and hugged her as if by doing so he could save her from being pulled away from him ever again.
He smiled at Rose when she spoke, one of those warm, infectious smiles that he reserved only for her. "When do we ever hit the time we were aiming for? Well, except for visits to your mum. Mostly. I think the TARDIS started getting those landings right because she was afraid I might wind up with brain damage from being slapped if I kept getting you home late."
