As River entered his room, Rory watched her closely. She was older. Not by much, but there were a few more lines to her face than the last time he had seen her. And perhaps it was the parent in him, or maybe the nurse or his own caring nature, but he noticed the tiredness behind her first smile. Whatever version of future she was from, it was no doubt a hard one on her. As he shut the door, he heard her comment and he turned, following her line of sight to his armor and he smiled in slight embarrassment. He remembered when he had first appeared to River wearing that get up. She had thought him a guard at her prison until she had gotten closer.
A thought suddenly struck him. The day he had appeared had been River's birthday and she had celebrated it with the Doctor... He smiled some and shrugged, running a hand through his hair.
"It's one thing I've learned with the Doctor. Try to be prepared for anything." He moved over to a small electric kettle he had put on and looked at the future version of his daughter. "Did you want some tea?" Thankfully the Doctor had a nice supply of tea in the kitchen of the TARDIS otherwise Rory was going to have to commandeer the TARDIS and fly it to England for a proper cup of tea. Tea was calming and since traveling with the Doctor, Rory valued it all the more.
