River understood there were too many options, and that was what worried her. It would be far too difficult to narrow the possibilities down until it was almost too late. She could have Althea keep track of Elizaveta's timeline, but that wouldn't exactly help anything. Perhaps this would be something she'd have to ask Sexy about, see if she would be able to discern anything. But for now, she needed to keep focused on Althea.
Of course Elizaveta was with her parents. No doubt they were all ready plotting how to bring Gallifrey out of the Time Lock. River rolled her eyes a little at that thought. It was dangerous having those three within close proximity of each other. It had once cost River dearly. She'd seen her father die at the Master's hands, and Elizaveta and Romana had seen it. Had the Doctors not shown up soon after and helped her, those three Time Lords would have died at her hands. River had never lived down that anger and hatred, but it didn't blind her, not in this instance. Master and Elizaveta were dangerous, everyone knew this, so she wasn't acting irrationally. Romana may try to paint her as such, but she didn't give a rat's ass about that.
And then Althea said it would be better if she wasn't born. Oh god, here they were again. It was Eleven's death all over again. Not for the first time that night, River silently cursed the Seal for doing this. When Althea went over to the corner and curled up, River followed her, putting the cloth back in her pocket. She knelt down beside Althea, reaching out and gently stroking the girl's hair.
"It would not be better. Even if we had not made this trip to the past here, your father would love the chance to know you. You are the embodiment of his love, Althea. You are the best of him and his TARDIS, and he deserves the chance to know you in the future." It went unsaid, but River hoped the minute changes they could make now, could change the future, make it so they had won the war, that Eleven wouldn't die. But it was hard to tell because time was constantly in flux here. River Song had very little hope in anything anymore, but she had hope in Althea, and she had to hope that being here in the past, they could change things for the better.
