It was good that Svetlana hadn't seen Anatoly cry because he didn't want her to break more for seeing him break. Though at the same time, they couldn't help the constant back and forth of hurting simply because the other hurt. That had always been their connection, the bad side of it caused them both to feel guilt and pain when the other was hurt by something they had said or done. It had never been so evident as it was now, though. Then again, neither of them had been as broken or raw as Svetlana was currently. It really was a vicious cycle, but they couldn't stop it now, not until they'd gotten through this conversation. Some how, some way, Anatoly would pick up the pieces, but it was still too early to do that.
Well okay, so that hadn't stopped him from hugging Svetlana because he knew she needed it. He felt her resist, trying to push away from him, but when she gave up and collapsed against him, he just held her tight against him, gently stroking her hair, trying to help her calm down at least a little. After all, before they could continue, he needed her to calm down a little again. Continuing to press the issue and getting her even more worked up would only lead to her breaking beyond repair. He well knew what happened when she had too much emotion thrown at her. But obviously, hugging could only do so much. Words could only do so much. He could perhaps try kissing her again, that tended to get her to at least wonder what the Hell just happened and thus cause her to unwind somewhat. Though he also knew that ran the risk of him getting slapped, but what else did he have at his disposal right now?
