And then all in one fell swoop, Anatoly was hit with the realization that after everything his parents had put Svetlana through, he'd turned around and gone back into a codependent relationship. That realization was almost too much for him to take because after everything, he'd just gone right back into what he had said he'd never go back to. And this realization brought tears to his eyes and down his cheeks. He was crying because there was so much he'd done that he wished he could undo, so much damage he'd done with his own hands and he couldn't stop it. He couldn't fix this until everything had gotten out, but more than anything he just wanted to put Svetlana back together, to prove to her that he wasn't the same man that had gone right back into a codependent relationship. It troubled him, but he did know what he'd had with Florence was over. He didn't want her anymore. All the various happenings in this world had only reinforced that. No, Anatoly wanted his family, wanted Svetlana, and he would do anything to get Svetlana to believe him when he said that. Though he well knew it would take action and not words in this case, but he would do that.

And then Svetlana was curled up against the wall. Oh God, it only made Anatoly's heart clench and break in his chest at seeing it. So instead of responding verbally this time, he instead decided to respond physically. He was well aware Svetlana would resist, but she needed a hug, and Anatoly needed to start with the proving he wasn't about to fall back into a codependent relationship yet again. Getting up from the couch, he went over to Svetlana and knelt down in front of her, then he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly yet protectively and comfortingly. He tried to convey that he was there for her, that he wasn't going to let her break beyond all repair. No, he was in this for the long haul, and that he believed they could get through this conversation. Anatoly was trying to become the man worthy of Svetlana's love again, and this was as good a starting point as any.
