"Not where I'm from," Sam immediately replied, looking more than baffled. What kind of weird planet was she from? They didn't have phones that worked like this. Dad certainly didn't. "We've just got..." He had already explained. Sam wanted to argue it, genuinely, because that was what he did when people disagreed with him on things he was certain about. Instead, Sam set the phone down and leaned back into his chair. He needed to concentrate on other things anyway. Babbling on about crazy advanced technology was only gonna get them nowhere when they had a lot more important things to worry about.
"I do know you," Sam said, smiling a little bit more, "you made me a sandwich." He took a bite out of it, nodding a little. After swallowing, Sam added, "once a person cooks for you, that's it. You know everything about them."
He was sort of joking. Which was weird because he usually didn't do that all too much around strangers. But Ruby was nice. And he felt comfortable around her.
