The woman drummed her fingers against the desk and frowned. She had expected Sherlock to turn up - Moriarty without Sherlock was a world without sense - but she hadn't expected the lack of recognition. Having read through the message board thoroughly, she did understand that people from any world and any time could be pulled through the mysterious "seal", but it hadn't occurred to her that he would arrive from before their meeting.

She still hadn't decided whether she was happy about the situation or not. As she had said to Moriarty - Jim, she reminded herself, if he was going to call her Irene she was determined to call him Jim - she had a chance to start over. But it smarted that he didn't know what he'd done to her, how thoroughly he'd crushed her. Still though. No doubt she'd soon do something to put herself in his path, and this time she wouldn't make the same mistakes. Although she did hope for a chance to smack those glorious cheekbones again. Hard enough to bruise.

An email told her Jim had replied to her latest message, and she smiled as she read the contents. Excellent. Funds were on the way, and the sooner all the equipment needed was acquired, the sooner this place could be left behind.

She sent a quick note to Lexi and headed down to the lobby to meet "T*Rock", who turned out to be a scared looking, rather respectable young man with a delightful envelope of notes for her. A brief period of teasing and the hand over was done with, and she headed back to her room to change for the shopping trip. She'd bought a few passable items of clothing in Walmart with her gift card - they really were well prepared for new arrivals, and she had to admit that their generosity was surprising - so she pulled on tight black leggings, a soft black polo neck and knee high black boots. Hair in a severe top knot, make up muted but perfect, she checked the boards one last time then headed back downstairs to meet Lexi.

Lexi grinned, "Oh its not a myth, not for my kind of vamp anyway. But this snazzy little bit of bling right here?" She raised her hand to show Irene. "Its what lets me walk around in the sun. You have no idea, its still amazing. I never expected it and when I got the chance to get a ring like this, I couldn't not. But don't take it as a rule of thumb, there are other kinds around here and they're not all good like me. Just, don't assume I'm what we're all like."

"Ruby is bored and pregnant with the potential antichrist. I suppose gossip is her outlet." Lexi joked, it was both a funny and terrifying concept, but the demon had told her in passing once Lexi had mentioned the shopping trip. "And don't worry, three centuries. You're not gonna surprise me with anything you have to say. But you were ever so refined and genteel in the books, aside from the stealing of everything, obviously. Sherlock seems to mostly be the same. Younger with a snazzier coat."

Stern worked for her profession though. Lexi wouldn't deny that. And if she was honest, she was a little impressed hardware and equestrian stores were on the list. Irene knew what she was doing better than the 350 year old vampire. Where the heck was Lee when she needed him? "I actually think you managed to school a 350 year old just now, so well done. Will we start with clothes before you give an old lady a heart attack." she added jokingly. "Kids these days"

Lexi crossed the block and pointed at a clothing store not far from them.

"Its a start I guess, what kind of actual clothes do you want to look at?"

Irene raised an eyebrow at the ring. "An actual daywalker ring?" Not entirely lacking in vampire lore (clients were so often fascinated with them), she seemed to recall the rings as something very rare. "And don't worry, I won't assume a thing - if Holmes and Wolverine can be in the same place, then anything is possible."

"Potential antichrist? This place gets more and more unbelievable...but pregnancy does make for boredom I'd imagine, so that's understandable." She shuddered inwardly, thinking about how dire motherhood would be, before continuing "I stole everything? Did I feature again, then? I've only read about my alter ego in A Scandal in Bohemia, and retaining a picture of myself and a king hardly counts as stealing. And he certainly didn't sound as delightful as my taste of royalty" she smirked. Irene ignored the comment about Sherlock, not wanting to think about the smug bastard and his infuriatingly snazzy coat.

"I can school grown men with a sentence, so I'm glad it works on you." She certainly wouldn't mind doing so properly - blondes were not generally her type, but Lexi was undeniably tempting. Probably best not to try though, she needed what allies she could find. "Although it's a long time since anyone called me a kid" she continued in the same joking way as Lexi, "I think I'll accept it from an ancient like yourself."

"Well, I need a few appropriate dresses, lingerie, and oh, shoes..." she trailed off, thinking of beauties left behind in London. "Yes, shoes, and some day wear. Slacks, blouses, you know." Not being used to questions about her shopping habits, she was finding it hard to describe her taste in outfits. "I'll know when I see what I need, if that makes sense? I've never had to start a wardrobe from scratch before..."

Oh, points to Irene, she knew the significance of the ring Lexi wore. "I mean, you're meant to get them from a witch of enough power. But me, I got mine from a wish. This weird ridiculous but sort of wonderful Christmas wish that let me have one thing. I could have wished just to walk in the sun forever but this, keeps me grounded I guess. If anyone ever gets to me, or I get compelled by a stronger vamp all you gotta do is get the ring off me and I'm done." The Holmes and Wolverine comment amused Lexi more than it probably should have but she totally wanted to see them meet. Someone would wind up being punched. It'd be awesome. ...There could be bets placed.

"It's kind of creepy but her husband's pretty awesome. I'm not sure what she thinks of me sometimes but I get along with Sam, her being BFF with the guy that killed me does kind of put a dampener on evenings at their place though so...yeah. We talk sometimes, more for Sam's sake I suppose." As for the stealing, "I think you did, at least movie you did. Lee was more into the novels than I was. I know of you, I obviously know the other two and of course the Moriarty guy. Who was not as..." She probably shouldn't say batshit crazy, how to phrase, "...unique, as the one here." she finished with a shrug. "But wait royalty, you did that too huh? What'd you do?" Lexi had never gotten a royal. It was sort of a regret of hers.

As for the schooling. Even Irene Adler was not allowed get one up on her. "It worked on that one thing that one time, don't get cocky!" she said teasingly. "I've got three centuries on you Miss Thang!" Even though ancient was pushing it. Brat.

"Shoes!. Now you're singing my tune! Also you should meet Juliet O'Hara, she's sort of the resident shoe queen around here. She's pretty okay for a cop." she explained, leading Irene toward a shop that looked promising. It was a good start.

Irene laughed when Lexi started describing how she'd got the ring. "There's no need to explain - I really don't know much about it - just enough to play the part. A wish though? For anything? I almost regret not being here for that." Of course, if she had, she would never have been defeated by Sherlock. Was that a good thing? She wasn't sure.

"So - what are her and her husband then? If their child is so unusual? Or is it incredibly complicated, at which point it should wait for a tea break" She paused when Lexi said Ruby was friends with the man who had killed her. "Definitely complicated."

"I haven't seen the movie, as of yet, but I've read some of the books. They're out of copyright apparently - so really I'm almost as old as you, in concept at least" she smirked.

"Moriarty is...interesting. And dangerous. And as genius and conceited as Sherlock. They're a perfect match for eachother," she continued, slightly bitterly, "and seem to have been in all of their incarnations. But you're right, he's further from the wall than his counterpart."

"What did I do? Only what I was requested to do, mostly." A wry smile crossed her face. "And maybe took a photo or two while I was at it. She was delightful though, it would have been a shame to lose the moment."

This was very strange for her, chatting in this nonchalant way about her life, and life in general. It wasn't something that happened very often, but it was undeniably relaxing, not needing to censor what she said. Perhaps there some advantages to lacking notoriety after all, not that it would last long. "There's always something new to learn, they say, and I doubt that goes away after three centuries. And I have to apologise, but I think I may be naturally cocky"

"Shoe queen, eh? I would love to peruse her collection..."

She walked after Lexi into the shop, looking around with an expert eye for something in her style. Within a few minutes there were several outfits over her arm, and she moved to the fitting rooms to try them on.

So she was more interested in it from a professional standpoint which Lexi supposed made sense. Vampires were apparently sexy and all that. Those of them that didn't sparkle. Ugh, sparkling. "I was only barely here for that, but they told me I got one wish, since it couldn't bring Lee here, letting me walk around in the day was the only thing I could think of. And like I said, the fact its a ring makes it easier in case anything ever goes wrong with me. Other people wished for money and houses and stuff, they said it happened in 2010 too."

"A demon and a...Sam I'm not clear on what his thing is but he's got something too. So the general talk is, should not have been able to conceive and somehow there's a demon with a baby on the way. They seem happy about it though, I guess" ...ish. Lexi didn't want to pry really, Sam had been a good friend since she'd gotten here. "The Damon stuff, I don't have much choice but to deal with it. He's there."

The other topics were less troubling to Lexi, which probably shouldn't be. But it was the way Irene talked about both men. There was a level of bitter in her tone that raised Lexi's interest. She was fascinated by both men but perhaps worried, Lexi couldn't put her finger on it and so decided to leave it up to Irene to tell if she wanted. And the rest, requested to by who? And for what? But again not her business, nosy as she was, she'd not known Irene long enough to pry that much. She'd have to get her to open up eventually but Lexi figured the woman wasn't used to that. Lexi accepted the cockiness too. There was no point in being shy around her. None at all, so she appreciated it as a positive in her new friend. Yes, new friend. She'd decided, she should probably inform Irene at some point.

So Jules, and her shoes, and clothes, and choices of clothes became the topic of choice. The vampire perched herself on a chair outside the changing rooms and continued the conversation now they were finished the talking about the stuff that didn't make sense to the outside world. "Ask her, maybe she'll let you. She'll let you while she's there, with her badge and gun, but she'll let you."

"Lee....your partner?" She had never understood that type of devotion to a single person. Yes, she'd had Kate for a while, but she was useful. Fun, too. But not a necessity. A wish wouldn't be wasted on bringing her here. "Still though, fortuitous timing, to get something like that, even if you couldn't have him" She wondered idly what she would have wished for. So many possibilities.

"Half demon, half something child. Wonderful if they're happy, I suppose" she shrugged noncommittally. She didn't press on the Damon topic, Lexi clearly didn't want to elaborate. And Irene was growing to like the girl (350 or not, she was still a girl) enough to decide not to press her. She'd have to find out more at some point, though...how could she resist knowing about the man who killed her?

"Badge and gun? Just a little bit protective then I take it.." She could appreciate that though. Shoes made a woman.

Three pairs of trousers, two blouses and several dresses later she emerged from the dressing room. All but one thing - a high waisted pair of slacks, so deep purple they were almost black - got returned to the rails, and she discreetly paid cash from the small clutch she was carrying.

Looking happier already she turned to Lexi and smiled genuinely. "Where to next?"

Her partner. Oh she'd had quite a few over the centuries but she'd never loved until Lee. She hadn't planned it either. He was mortal, but they'd talked in a speakeasy in the 20's and life had changed that night. She'd eventually told him what she was, left the decision up to him and he'd taken it. He'd followed her into immortality and they'd been inseparable ever since. "I've been with other people since, so has he, but he's not here, and as long as he's not here, I wouldn't, y'know? But yes, he's my partner. And if I could have him here, things would be perfect."

But that was the least of the weird in a world with potential antichrists and the face of her killer walking around in triplicate.

"Oh very" she said by way of explanation. "I approve of Jules as it happens, she's dating Sam's brother. That family is special in many ways." she added. And they were, lovely but sometimes weird even to the vampire girl. She explained more about the various people around Lawrence while Irene tried on all the various outfits and wound up deciding on only one item. Not a huge surprise.

Lexi looked across the street to a shoe shop. "Could try there, then there could be coffee?" she suggested. They'd been in two shops so far. That was clearly enough for coffee.

Irene only smiled as she explained about Lee. If she wanted to be faithful to her missing lover then that was her choice, as ridiculous as it was.

"They do so sound interesting."

Now a shoe shop she could handle. "Perfect. A cup of tea wouldn't be unwelcome."

8 or 9 pairs later and she settled on two sets of ball-shattering stilletos, and one pair of knee high leather boots. They continued the idle chatter about the inhabitants of this strange situation, and Irene found herself getting more and more intrigued. Such a wide client list, and the potential...maybe her change in circumstance wasn't a terrible thing after all.

"Lead on my dear. Possibly somewhere that does pastries as well as coffee?"

Interesting wasn't the word she'd have gone for but they were good people, which meant a lot in the grand scheme of things, given where they'd found themselves having the natives actually care about the rest of them was pretty damn important. That and the whole, getting along with people thing. Bar the crazies, but there were always crazies, Lexi had managed to get through her very long life avoiding them.

Shoes and tea sounded like a good way to kick off the day though.

She'd helped as much as she could in picking out the shoes but Irene most definitely knew what she wanted and what she liked. She'd picked out the best and Lexi had to admit she was more than impressed with the choices. She'd picked up a pair of heels herself nothing as fancy as she had but it was a good decision.

"There's a place just down the road. Been told its pretty damn awesome but y'know, not usually able to wander around while its open." She started to walk toward it, swinging her bag back and forward as she walked.

Adler followed Lexi to the coffee shop, watching her swing her bag in wry amusement. "It really is hard to imagine not being able to walk in the daylight" she stated, just as they reached the door. She walked in before Lexi got a chance to reply, and looked around for the most private table. If they were going to continue talking about the complex and her unusual state of existence, privacy was probably a good idea.

She found a booth tucked away in the corner and raised an eyebrow at the vampire. "This seems suitable, yes?" She'd already scanned the menu behind the counter and saw they had Twinnings Breakfast tea as a 'special', which she approved of. Tea from home would be very welcome.
