Who: Rory Williams and whoever
What: Rory arrives!...in his Roman gear
Where: Streets of Lawrence
When: Late afternoon/early evening of the 8th
Rating: G most likely. It's Rory after all.
Status: In progress

After traveling so much with the Doctor and Amy in the TARDIS, you would think Rory was use to being disoriented with time travel. But it was, in fact, still disorienting at times. At least in the TARDIS there was a ship. Traveling by vortex manipulator was a bit odd. Though Rory was pleased to know his daughter, Melody, River, whatever she wanted to be called, would be safe. But that didn't mean that he didn't want to keep searching for his daughter. After all, it was his daughter. And Rory was a devoted man to his family. Why else would he have waited for nearly two thousand years in guarding the Pandorica? Nevermind the fact it had been in an alternate reality. He still remembered that life at times.

It was obvious that wherever or whenever Rory had ended up was not Leadworth. Nor was Amy with him. Or River. He was, however, still dressed in his Roman best. Or at least what the Doctor had told him to wear when they went on the Demon's Run assault. Noticing he was getting odd looks from the passersby, Rory hurried down the street to try and find a spot to hide. He needed normal clothes but as he didn't know where or when he was, he didn't know if he'd have the money for normal clothes. And he wasn't going to go around stealing clothes like the Doctor had with Prisoner Zero.

No Doctor, no Amy, no River, no TARDIS. How the hell am I suppose to find out where I am? Let alone when? Oh sometimes he hated the Doctor. If only the man had just stayed in the Demon's Run and gotten them back home himself, he wouldn't be in this mess. Hopefully Amy's safe...if anything happens to her... No where would be safe from him and he'd make sure the Doctor took full responsibility.

With a heavy sigh, Rory knew he'd need to venture out and figure out where and when he was. Shrugging the cloak off to make it seem like a blanket, he made sure his sword was hidden and began walking through the streets of Lawrence, hoping to catch sight of a familiar blue box. Because if the Doctor wasn't here, Rory knew he'd be on his own.

Being in a world with one Doctor was complicated. Two had been interesting and amusing at the very least. But Three? Now it was just getting weird. And Rose? Was used to weird. Add to that companions from before and after her time, people she knew disappearing and then showing back up again, and somewhat accidentally coming into Billie Piper's money?

Rose was having an incredibly awkward few weeks.

Still, she knew where she belonged. Romana had cleared that up for her, mostly. Even if she still felt a bit strange having three men who knew her way too well all around at once. So she was bundled up and heading towards the TARDIS for a visit, as she so often did. Really, she should probably just give in and move back in. But she couldn't make herself do it. Not yet.

If the cute boy in the strange costume hadn't caught her eye, she'd have been there quite quickly. The police box wasn't parked all that far away, really. But there he was, looking a bit confused and totally out of place, and she paused. Because she knew that face. Oh, he didn't know her. But she knew him. Well. Of him. And since she sincerely doubted she'd tripped over a British actor in Lawrence, Kansas...well. She couldn't help but grow a little bit hopeful.

"Hi," she offered, hoping the accent at least would help ease his worries a bit. Till, of course, she explained they weren't in England at all. "Looking for something?"

Hope had been leaving Rory that he'd ever track down that blue box in this town. But hearing a voice with an English accent gave him some hope that he was, in fact, somewhere in England and that Amy was close by. He turned and looked the blonde over. She seemed fairly pretty (though Rory would always prefer a certain redhead. He had married her after all) and looked to have an honest face and eyes.

"Yes, I am actually," he said, remembering to answer before she thought him an idiot. "I'm actually looking for my wife, Amy Pond. And our d-friend, River." He doubted saying daughter would go over well if this woman asked him to describe River. "We were...traveling together and got seperated. So...um, could you tell me what town this is? How far it might be from Leadworth?"

He hoped and prayed that this woman would be able to help him. And he'd wait to mention the Doctor. At least for now. He wasn't sure yet still if this was in fact Earth or some planet that humans had colonized. So he'd wait to ask that question of where the Doctor was and hope he was close by.

This? Was why she and Felicia needed that welcoming committee. Trying to explain this place to someone new was always a challenge. Still, Felicia had chosen her for the project for a reason. She could handle this. And judging by the way he was dressed (Amy did have good taste!), Rose was almost positive Rory was from after the time when he started traveling with the Doctor. So he should be able to handle strange at least a little better than some.

"I think I can help you with at least some of that," she offered, giving him a genuine smile. How long had she wanted to meet him only for Amy to now be gone? Still, River was there, and the Doctor he knew. Maybe that would help. "I'm Rose. Rose Tyler. And I've a friend called the Doctor."

That should do it. Rory knew the Doctor. It wasn't like trying to explain him to the alternate universe Donna. "You're in America, actually. Earth, 2012." She could explain the whole Biblical seal issue in time. Baby steps. She'd also wait to see how he reacted before she mentioned Amy.

Rose Tyler and she knew the Doctor. Rory couldn't stop the widening of his eyes. And he was on Earth, ableit a future Earth than the one he had come from (but what was a year?). "Least I made it to Earth," he murmured. That was good. But that still didn't explain where River and Amy were. But if the Doctor was here...

"You know the Doctor? Is he here? Now?"

If the Doctor was here there was a good chance Amy and River were here somewhere too. At the very least Amy. "Or is someone called River Song here?" He frowned, a thought occuring to him. How did this girl know of the Doctor?

"Have you traveled with the Doctor then? Is that how you know him?" He had questions that needed answering. And so far this Rose Tyler was his only link to finding his missing wife. Though he could probably wait and listen for any Scottish shouting. Amy had quite the set of lungs on her and the attitude to use them properly. He smiled faintly at the memory of Amy and hoped she would turn up soon. He had already lost one woman in his life, he didn't want to lose another.

Rose didn't hold back her smile. Yes, this sucked. Telling a guy he'd crossed time and possibly galaxies to be separated from his wife wasn't any fun for anybody. But he seemed sensible. And he was in a bit of luck, anyway. "I did travel with him, a while back," sensitive subject there, Rory, thanks, "but he is definitely here. And so is River."

She gave that a moment to sink in. Rory couldn't know that she had been one of the ones there for Amy when she'd found out River was their child. River, Melody, whatever. She couldn't know for sure if Rory knew that bit yet, so she offered as sympathetic a smile as she could when she told him, "It's only fair to warn you, Amy's not here. You didn't just space travel, or time travel. You've been pulled across dimensions. This is a world where you shouldn't even exist. It picks and chooses who it brings and currently, at least, Amy isn't here." Which still sucked. Rose was tired of losing people, Amy included. But there was nothing she could do about that.

So, the Doctor was here. And so was River. That was good. At least he had some familiar people to talk with. But then he heard Rose say Amy wasn't here. Part of his heart sank while another part sighed in relief when he learned he had traveled across dimensions. "She could be safe then. She has to be safe..." And she knows I'll find my way back to her. No matter what.

"You said the Doctor's here? Could you take me to him? Or at least to the TARDIS so I can change?" Rory knew the Doctor had lots of clothes in his ship and he could change into some more Earth normal clothes. Roman armor wasn't exactly warm in winter weather.

"And...how'd'you mean this world picks and chooses who comes here? Is it some sort of technology then?" He wasn't the most technical savvy person (and the Doctor speaking at a million miles an hour never helped) but Rory did try to understand what was happening around him. So he'd take whatever Rose could tell him so he at least had some forknowledge before he got to talking with the Doctor.

Rose gave him a soft, knowing smile. She knew that feeling. "I don't know when you're here from," she admitted, "but she's probably as safe as anyone ever is when they travel with the Doctor." As much as she loved her Doctor, and cared for the other two, she wasn't stupid. She knew the dangers involved the second one became a part of his life. She wouldn't trade it for anything.

"Follow me, we'll walk and talk. I was actually headed over there myself. We're lucky the TARDIS is even here, to be honest." Since two other Doctors had shown up sans theirs. Which still made her a little sad, admittedly. She didn't have the issues with the redecorations that the Tenth did, but she missed the old console room. And the library not being at the pool.

She took a deep breath, trying to think of the easiest way to break this to someone. Not just any someone, as she'd done it before, but the husband and friend and father of her friends. Easier said than done. "The thing that brought us here is actually a seal. A Biblical seal, not the animal type. They covered Lucifer's cage for years, keeping him trapped in hell. When the final one broke, literally, all hell broke loose. And we were brought here to help. Not just us, either, people from the Doctor's world. People from all over."

Apparently, Rory, too, was from the school of 'just dribbled down your shirt'. She understood. She was good for putting things in laymen's terms when the Doctor would go off on his thirty minute tangents about bananas.

Rory walked with Rose, trying to take in all that she said. The Bible, Lucifer, seals, and people from dimensions beyond their own. It was definitely a lot to take in. He missed the old simple days when the Raggedy Doctor was just a story Amy told (and often forced him to dress up as said Raggedy Doctor). Still, at least he knew a little of why he was here. Stop Hell from happening.

So I guess it's a good thing it chose me in the real Roman armor. And while Rory wasn't a warrior all the time, he could focus and call up his memories of being Auton Rory in the alternate reality. That Rory knew all about how to fight. It was how he had kept the Pandorica safe and it was how this Rory, the real Rory, had fought at Demon's Run.

"Okay. So we were brought here to stop the end of the world. Great." He got that part. "Next question though. Um, with people being from different dimensions...does that mean they're from different times too?" He needed to know which River and Doctor he would be dealing with. True the River that had tried to get him home knew who she was and who her parents were, but that didn't mean she always knew. And it really didn't mean the Doctor knew either. Oh sure he had figured it out before them at Demon's Run when River went to the cot. But this Doctor could be the past or future of that Doctor.

Rory really hated having met the Doctor at times.

Oh, he was smart. Really smart. At least, smart in a 'traveling with the Doctor' sort of way, she had no idea if he was booksmart or not. Not only did he grasp the other dimensions thing quickly, but he was asking about other times. Brilliant! She could see why Amy adored him so much. And why the Doctor kept him around (when all he'd wanted to do was kick Mickey to the curb).

As they walked, she pulled out her cell phone, posting a quick note to the people she knew needed to be at the TARDIS when they arrived. Sure, it was nice enough having someone who knew familiar people. But nothing beat seeing a familiar face around this city.

"It does," she admitted, even as she was filtering her post. "Well, it would have to, really. The Doctor you traveled with left me behind long ago." Oops. That wasn't supposed to come out quite that way. Oh, well. Couldn't be helped. "If you're asking if they'll know who you are, though, they do. They both do. And I honestly can't wait to see River's face when she sees you."

It would probably be somewhat similar to the look on Rose's face if her dad showed up. Or any little girl who had a very complicated relationship with her father but still wanted to be in his life. Poor River. Rose didn't envy her that situation. Hers was hard enough, but River's? She'd pass, thanks.

"It helps, you know. Having people you know here? Not everyone does when they arrive, you got pretty lucky, really." Except Amy. Should she even mention she'd met the ginger? She was a little hesitant to, really. Might only upset him.

Rory wanted to ask more on the way Rose worded that statement of getting left behind, but instinct told him it was Rose's business and she'd share if she wanted. Still, he felt like something should be said. "Well...maybe the Doctor thought it for the best? I mean, he picked me up, at least, me from an alternate reality where time was cracking apart before the Pandorica, so that Amy and I would know about the space stuff." He shrugged. "Though I don't think anyone really knows what he's thinking, not even him."

The displaced man shivered a bit under the cloak. He was going to be grateful to get into warmer clothes. Still, at least he had clothes. He was grateful for that at least. But the comment about River drew his attention away from his musings on clothing.

"Why can't you...does she know who I am? Do you know that I'm her father? But how can you know...we'd only just found out at Demon's Run..." The last bit was said quietly. Rose seemed to know quite a bit about him. Perhaps either River or the Doctor, maybe both, were from his future. It was clearly possible after all.

Rory shrugged. "I suppose you're right. Though, no offense, I'd rather be home with Amy. Waiting. Recovering." It isn't every day you find out that the woman you'd been with for several months had been created by the Flesh. Not that Rory minded, he knew that just because they were created out of milky white goop didn't make them any less human. But it was still disconcerting. Part of him wondered if that had been how Amy felt when she realized he had been made of plastic at one point.

"Is there anything else I should know?" Best to go in to see the Doctor with as much knowledge as possible. At least that way you didn't look like a total idiot. Rory faintly remembered going into the TARDIS and not being all that overwhelmed by the sheer size. The Doctor had been disappointed about Rory's lack of astonishment.

The smile Rory got for his efforts was small, but it was there. Oh, she knew the Doctor had done what he thought was best at the time. It had taken them a lot of work to get through that. She'd been so angry and so hurt and he'd regretted it but he'd done what he thought he had to. That didn't make it easier to deal with, and it really took effort to see him be so happy with Amy and River knowing she'd been left behind.

"For a bloke who didn't much notice alternate realities at one point, he's sure getting good at them," she chose to comment instead, eyeing him for a moment and then shrugging. "I don't know why I'm surprised at anything he does anymore, if I'm being honest."

Did she know who he was? Oh, Rory. "I've been here for quite a while, actually. So has she. Remember, different timelines. We've talked. I..." She hesitated, then figured the truth was probably better. "Amy was here for a while, as well. We got to know each other fairly well before the seal sent her back. So, yeah, you'll have to forgive me. I know a bit about you just from how much she talked about you." Maybe admitting that she was crazy about her husband would help soothe him with not having her there.

"No offense taken," she reassured him with a grin. "Trust me, most of us would rather be home, or at least be with our loved ones." She didn't want to be home. Being home meant no more Doctor and having to deal with the metacrisis version and everything he represented. That was not a task she was looking forward to.

Anything else? Oh. Probably best... "The Doctor doesn't die, exactly. When he gets near death, his body can regenerate, take a different form, create a whole new person. There's three of him here. Best to know that going in. The two I traveled with and the one you and Amy know." She released a breath, blowing her hair out of her face as she thought. "And there's an apartment complex some of us choose to live in till we're settled, but most of our lot is hanging around the TARDIS." All except her, anyway.

"Sort of have to with the Doctor I guess," Rory returned in reply to the alternate realities comment. It was still weird, no denying that. But at least he knew he wasn't going crazy. At least, no more so than anyone else who traveled with the Doctor. But the next comment threw him for one hell of a loop.

"Amy was here? In this dimension?? Why'd the Seal send her back??" He grabbed Rose's arm, not violently, but urgently, and stared into her eyes, their depths begging for information. "Was...was it because she died here or something? Was that why she was sent back?" If anything had happened to her...and he hadn't been there to protect her. Realizing Rose probably didn't know the mind of the Seal, he let go of her arm and awkwardly shifted. "Sorry...just...we found out who River is...I had just gotten Amy back..."

He took a deep breath and slowly let it out, doing his best to compose himself. He needed to be strong right now. Learn where he stood exactly then in private he could deal with his guilt about not being here for Amy. Resuming walking, he blinked as he learned about the regeneration.

"I don't think he's ever mentioned that to us. So...there's three Doctors here right now then? Shouldn't that be some sort of paradox then? A bad...paradox? A paradox of death or something?" For now, Rory ignored the bit about the apartment complex. If the TARDIS was here, he was staying there. Because it was certain River was there and if River and the Doctor were there, and Amy were to show up again, she'd show up there.

Rose's heart broke for him as he took in the news. She offered him a sympathetic expression and tried to speak in her most soothing voice. It sounded better in her head. "No, the seal...it does that sometimes. She was from a time before you are now. The two of you were already married, but she didn't know about River. But when I said the seal picks and chooses who it brings, it also chooses who it sends back." Which was still a terrifying thought to Rose. One day she could wake up and the Doctor could be gone. Any of them, sure, but what if it was hers?

Before they even started walking again, she'd waved off his apology. "This place does crazy things, I promise you that. Amy's safe, at the very least. And probably quite happy, she missed you loads while she was here." And, as it often did, her heart tugged a bit, missing the Scottish girl. But, well, she had to move on, right? She'd lost the entire world she'd grown up in. She could handle losing a few friends so long as they returned to a time when they were safe.

"By all rights, this place should have imploded when the second Doctor arrived," she admitted with a shrug. "Instead, they all just have arguments about who is better and whose hair is nicer and who had the better adventures. It's tiring, but you get a good laugh out of it now and again." They were close to the TARDIS and she knew there was plenty still to tell him and they couldn't get it all in and she didn't want any friend of the Doctor's (or husband of Amy's, or father of River's) to be in the dark.

She took a deep breath. "Also, we're on a television show. On the telly. It's about the Doctor and his travels and to the people here, we're fiction. And you're some bloke named Arthur and the girls love you. And Amy threatened to kidnap him until you showed up." That was probably the biggest bit of news. Though... "And since it's a Biblical seal and all, and there's demons and, you know, Satan running loose, I'll bring you an amulet from the Complex the next time I come by. It'll keep you from getting possessed. Which is always good."

Okay, done rambling. For a bit. There was so much to say. She knew River could explain more, if he still had questions. Not the Doctor, though. He'd be completely lost.

Rory let out a breath he had been holding. So Amy hadn't died or been close to death. He didn't feel like a huge failure anymore. That was good. And hearing that Amy had missed him made his heart break that he hadn't been here for her. He prayed she had managed without him. It sounded like she had and at least she had company here and good friends. It was better than nothing.

"He's mentioned in passing at times he can't cross his own timeline or dire consequences would be had. Which happened actually with the Pandorica." He shrugged, the sword clanging dully against his armor. "Three Doctors now you said though...it should be...interesting." At least they all weren't the exact same Doctor. That...would be far too confusing for comfort.

Hearing the next bit made him blink. "We're...fiction here?" Well...that was a blow to one's sense of being real and alive. Though to be fair it was an alternate dimension and it could be possible. And hearing he was crushed on by girls made him blush some. How had Amy responded to that he wondered. "Right...possessions...not getting possessed by spirits of death would be good." This really was a lot to take in. Still, at least he had met an ally and friend shortly after arriving here.

"How much farther do you think til we reach the TARDIS?" Part of him was eager to see River, to hold her and make sure she was okay. It was the father in him.

"Figures. Lectures me for crossing timelines and then he goes and does it himself." And see what had happened? Whole universe imploding. Well done, Doctor. She wasn't surprised, thank you. In fact, she was quite smug. At least there hadn't been absolutely terrifying flying monsters of doom. Just, y'know, no universe.

"Oh, yeah. You eventually get used to it, even when your friends have 'watched' you on the telly." Including at her worst moments. That was still awkward. "But that means there's people you might know of, too. Like...I don't know, Star Wars, comic books, whatever. One of my best friends is from Spider Man, how's that for weird?"

He was handling it fairly well. Probably better than she had, and she thought she'd done remarkably, thanks. He was good. She could see River in him, which she supposed meant she saw him in River, but fine then. The Doctor's influence was there, too. Which was both good and a little worrisome. "Being possessed would suck. There's classes you can take, most of them are over at the complex, you can learn about how to prevent things like possession. And what happens when you are. I've seen it..it's not pretty." And you could stab your own girlfriend. Yeah. She'd pass, thanks.

Glancing sideways at him, she grinned. "I'd say we're going to turn this corner here and you're going to see a big blue box. And I'm pretty sure you could say it's bigger on the inside." And hopefully River would be around to see him. Or the Doctor. The right one, anyway. Not that there was anything wrong with the others, she was more than a little fond of them both. Rory just needed familiar faces was all.

Okay...so other people from fiction where here as well. That was...going to be interesting. For now though, he'd settle for getting his bearings then seeing if he could be helpful. "Honestly I think weird is relative at this point." He thought he had known weird with Amy bullying him (okay not really, he'd had a crush on Amy since seeing her) into dressing up as her imaginary friend who turned out to be weird. And their wedding reception had been one to remember too, what with the Doctor appearing in his blue box.

And while he seemed calm on the outside, he was fretting fiercely internally, especially about the possession bit. If it was even remotely like what he had done when the Nestene had taken over back in 102 AD, he'd be looking into every class he could to prevent that. "I think I might look into those classes then," he agreed calmly.

As they turned said corner, Rory did indeed spy a familiar blue box. Relief shown in his eyes at the familiar sight. He walked forward and knocked as he went to push the door open. "Um, Doctor Eleven? You in there?" he called out.
