What would Dmitri do in this situation? In any of it? How would he have responded to Anatoly's defection, his distance, the cheating and now being in the same place as the woman her husband had left her for, albeit temporarily? She tried not to show how hard it was on her to be in this situation, but that didn't mean it wasn't. It was just Svetlana masking everything because it was all she knew. And her brothers and Anatoly were really the only ones who ever could see that. Sometimes she wondered if Darcy did. Or even Freddie. But she didn't bring it up with them, especially not Freddie. Darcy was an interesting one, because of her friendship with Florence. It left Svetlana uncertain on what exactly she could reveal. She didn't think Darcy would say anything, but as much as Svetlana disliked the Hungarian, she would never purposefully interfere in any of her affairs, which meant that she had to keep their relationship quiet. And she didn't think it fair to put Darcy in a situation where she was between two friends. No. It was better to say nothing on this or if she said anything, be vague. But Dmitri? Dmitri she could talk to candidly about this without fear of him growing so angry that he wouldn't listen.
Letting out a slow breath, Svetlana finally opened her eyes. She didn't really feel that much calmer. She knew that the wish she would make at midnight would come true, or at least it should. While she doubted the validity of the belief these past five years, perhaps it had just taken that time for the wishes to come true in regards to Anatoly coming back to her. And now they had so much to work through. So what did she wish for this year? Most likely a wish for the well being of her daughters. Here that was all that mattered as she couldn't protect them as well as she had in Moscow. She would figure that out.
"You are new here, recently arrived, correct?"
Why she spoke, Svetlana wasn't certain. Then again, contrary to the ice queen persona she put on, she did care. And it was obvious that Rei was one of the displaced. Being next to her showed Svetlana that this wasn't the fourteen year old who had Anatoly worried. This was the one who wanted to go to school. Oh, she paid attention to the boards even if she didn't comment much. Besides, they were alone here, and Svetlana knew how hard it was to show up here, even with knowing people. To be a teenager? She didn't know how well she'd respond though this one seemed to be handling it well enough, all things considered.
