Connor couldn't have stopped smiling if he'd wanted to. He didn't know how he'd gone and gotten this lucky. Maybe he'd done something right since he'd been in this place, or maybe he was being allowed to make up for his stupid past mistakes. But he was the luckiest person he knew just then. And he figured he was allowed to smile. He didn't even care if she knew it; for the first time in a very long time, Connor Temple was genuinely happy.
"You never know," he protested, closing his eyes for a moment to just enjoy the cuddling. "You could have decided that hey, some other guy was there and willing and why bother with the crazy paleontologist guy with the collection of comic books. I mean, really?" Not many could insult themselves and make it sound like a joke, but Connor was really, really good at it. He'd learned from a young age that if he made the jokes first, they lost their impact when someone else did it.
He pulled back a bit, then, giving a little laugh. "And here I thought I'd planned this really romantic evening. So sorry it failed?" Only he wasn't because failure would mean he wouldn't have told her how he felt and, he certainly wouldn't be holding her and kissing her and all sorts of other wonderful things.
