When Connor rushed to the tree, Kimberly pulled her gift for him out of her purse and made her way further into his apartment, settling on his couch. It wasn't much, because she hadn't realized just how expensive video games were and she'd still had other people to shop for with the meager income she had leftover from the med bay job after she'd done some much needed grocery shopping, but...
Kimberly had perused the shelves of the local Game Stop for an hour before finally deciding on the new Mario & Sonic Olympic Winter Games one. She wasn't entirely sure it would entirely be his style, but she'd chosen it for a few reasons. For one, she knew that it was set in London and she'd hoped to be able to give him some piece of home, since she'd found out he had learned he was fictional, so going home wasn't an option, even if he went back to the UK for a visit. Secondly, it was a sort of shout out to the way they'd bonded in person because it was in the Mario family of games. Lastly, it was a game that looked like something she could learn to play, too, so they wouldn't always have to play the same Mario Kart game over and over when she wanted to join him in gaming.
Whether he'd like it or not still remained to be seen, though, and that made her more nervous than she liked to admit. What if he hadn't bought it for himself because he thought it was stupid? Or, what if he thought it was lame because it seemed simple and thoughtless on the outside? What if he'd spent more on her gift and she looked cheap by comparison? These were all things she hadn't really considered while making the purchase, but had been agonizing over for the past week, moreso after their lyrical admissions to one another.
She held the gift up and out for him when he returned. "You first," she insisted. If he was going to hate it, at least she could see the expression and it'd be quick like a Band-Aid being ripped off rather than waiting.
