Who: Stefan Salvatore, Lexi Branson, and Elena Gilbert
What: Vamp Detox 101
Where: Bobby's Panic Room, South Dakota
When: 12th December 2011, night
Rating: PG-13
Status: Incomplete

Stefan couldn't have told anyone how many days had passed, how long ago he'd been jumped in a bar, knocked out, and taken to this windowless cell in who-knew-where. The only thing he could have talked about, or thought about, was blood. Warm, rich, thick, smoky, sweet blood. How badly he wanted it. How badly he needed it. His mouth felt dry, his skin gripped tightly to his frame, his head pounded and his gums ached. He would've killed to get a kill. Yet no one had come in the room, even if he could smell human and hear a beating heart in the moments that someone looked to see he was still there.

He'd tried to break through the room with no luck and now his strength waned. He'd yelled; he'd pleaded. Now his tactics took a different turn. He was an addict with a desperate need for a hit. All he had to do was convince someone to open the door, just a little. So he lied.

"You can let me out now. The blood's out of my system," Stefan called through the thick wall, unsure if anyone lurked in hearing distance. "I'm not a problem anymore," he continued. And continued, the same mantra pouring from his mouth. Eventually someone had to let him out and then they would be the first ones to make him feel better.

They'd arrived at Bobby's without much fanfare. He'd said hello to Elena who he'd met before and given Lexi a decidedly annoyed once over, muttered something about fangs coming in all shapes and sides but that he was still gonna watch her and pointed her at the fridge where he'd gotten her some blood. Oneg like she'd asked for. Lexi hadn't so much expected that to have gone so well given what Sam said, but the people here were alright. More than that, they were willing to give Stefan a chance even though he'd gone ripper. A lot of people wouldn't. Of course they were also willing to give Damon a chance, but she'd get to that bag of bad guy later. Her priority was Stefan, even above that poor kid Damon had turned, she was here, and it looked like she was here just in time. She'd tried to prepare Elena as best she could. Telling her Stefan wouldn't be Stefan, telling her he'd say anything, he'd play at being better, he'd rant and rave and curse her like there was no tomorrow but it wasn't Stefan saying it. It was the blood. Nothing more than the ravings of a madman.

Lexi sipped some blood as she ran through things with Bobby, almost amused at how twitchy it made him. Sam had called ahead to warn of the vampy arrival and Elena seemed to calm him a little bit but she got it. He was a hunter. She was working with Hunters now. ...The things she'd do for her best friend. All over again. How the hell had he slipped? Turned out no one seemed to know so it must have been at home, he'd been doing so well too.

Lexi shook her head as Bobby finally led her down to the panic room, Elena, she left upstairs for now, she wanted a chat with Stefan first herself before letting the girl anywhere near him. Besides, unlike usual, he was NOT gonna be happy to see her. And of course she heard the usual crap. 'Let me out' 'I'm better, I'm not gonna hurt anyone' Lies of course, all of it. "Open the door" she told Bobby at a whisper, "Just enough to let me in, I'll move fast."

Faster than Stefan in his blood deprived state.

Bobby did as he was asked and Lexi was inside the room before he could blink, the door closing again as soon as he'd noticed. Even if Stefan had tried to make a move for it, Lexi was older, stronger, and not detoxing. But god dammit he looked like crap. He was practically screaming for the blood, for the kill and the rush that came with it for people like him. But those days were behind him now.

"Funny thing, mystical hell seals. People say they're bad things but I dunno, dropping me out of whatever comes after and right into the town you've been terrorizing. I'm gonna go ahead and call that a fun little twist of fate. Miss me" she said by way of introduction, eyes fixed at a gaze into Stefan's own.

This was not going to be his day.

At the sound of the door opening Stefan tensed and prepared to bolt. He could feel his fangs extending, ready for the impending attack or need for self defense. He still wasn't sure who had him captive but he anticipated tasting their blood.

Fast as flash through the small opening, before Stefan could move, a blonde woman entered the room. A very familiar, very dead, blonde woman. He stared in disbelief. The hallucinations were getting more realistic than they had in past if he saw Lexi. Then she spoke, sounding very much like Lexi, his best friend over the course of a century and a half. And the last person he wanted to see right now.

"Go away. I don't want you here," he replied, taking a step back. He wanted her far, far away from him. "Are you the one who locked me up?" It wouldn't have been the first time she did something like that.

Well that was about what she'd expected from him. Not nice, not their usual banner. It was the Ripper talking. Stefan had lost himself in the bloodlust and Lexi was here to remind him of who he was. She'd detox him if he'd let her get in his head, he was weak enough that it wouldn't take long for her to do it. She'd just need to tie him down, which she'd get around to before letting Elena anywhere near him. But not yet, first she wanted to talk to him, clear things up about just what had gone so wrong in the short time she'd been dead. How had it changed so much? How had he lost his way so easily, it didn't make sense. He'd gotten a handle on things, she thought this time he'd be able to go the distance. And of course, he had Elena.

"No I doubt you do." she replied almost resignedly. "And no, I'm not the one that locked you up, that by all accounts was a group effort. There they were trying to work out what to do, and as if by magic, the seal coughs me up just in time to get your ass back on track, because you sweetness are not gonna stay like this if I can help it. You know how this goes. Now do you want to sit your ass down and let me do this like a civilized person or am I going to have to make you."

She looked around the room curious at the set up, it was all full of symbols she didn't understand outside of the realms of 'witch stuff' and a bed and a chair that she could tie him down to. And she'd ask Bobby for a few stakes when the time came to make him remember his humanity. But it was the blood that was the issue right now.

"And please, no more of that, it's been a week I'm blood free crap anymore. I got bored of it just from listening upstairs. You're far from blood free Stefan. But then I guess that's up to me isn't it." Lexi's hand reached out quicker than most could see and shoved Stefan against a wall.

Part of the plan. She liked her plans better. Less death all round.

"I don't need you," he growled. "Give up." Lexi just ruined his fun. She stepped in, tortured him, changed him, and had him spending the rest of his existence as a miserable regretful vampire. But he was a vampire and how dare she try to deny him his true nature and make him more human. This was what he was now, a ripper. A perfect killing machine. No remorse, just a craving to satiate, and prey to play with like a cat did a mouse.

As if in answer to her question Stefan stepped back again. There were no exits and little he could do to fight back. Yet he wanted to dodge her efforts, to escape and find his next victim. If only Lexi could see her efforts were futile, that he would always be what he was now and he preferred it that way. Dread began to settle in his empty stomach as she continued and he sensed exactly what was coming. History was always repeating itself it seemed.

Before he could step away Lexi came at him. Stefan snarled just before he hit the wall of the room. Everything went instantly black.

Give up was not a phrase Lexi knew, and as she watched him fall into unconsciousness she moved quickly, getting him into the chair and tied down as securely as she could. Which was more than secure enough for their purposes. And then she woke him up with a well placed sharp slap across the face that would have broken the jaw of a human. But Stefan was far from human. Further than he'd been since the last time they were here. This was waking him up. "We've been here before, haven't we bestie? You know how this goes, you rant, you hate me, you tell me you wish I was dead, which hey? This time I was dead so that's out of your repertoire. Wake up and talk to me."

Once he was secure Lexi stepped back, getting a good look at him and found herself not happy with what it was she saw. He knew what she was going to do to him. Of course he did, they'd been here before. Stefan had to be so careful and he usually was, he kept clear of human blood for a reason, and something had changed in him. Something had gone so horribly wrong and she wanted more than anything to know what. But Elena didn't know, Damon didn't know and there weren't any others here, apparently others had been but that hardly helped her now.

"You do need me. You don't see it right now but you need me to help you remember why you fight. You need me to help you remember why you're worth it. You're a good person Stefan. I wouldn't be your bff if you weren't. You remember how I found you, how you were? I helped you didn't I. You just have to listen to me."

And she was going to make him listen.

"You've got a friend upstairs. A good friend, someone that loves you, someone that's been there through it all. Someone you told me was important to you. You're killing her with this, I figure you know that. Hey, remember when you used to give a crap?"

The world slammed back into him a second after Lexi's hand left his cheek aching. He took a moment, a halting beat, to absorb his surroundings and remember what going on. Right. Locked away. And now tied up. Stefan jerked to try to free himself of his restraints but they held true. Now Lexi had him and she would start her entire arduous process all over again, except this time it wouldn't work. He didn't want to change.

"I'll kill you." Stefan raised his green eyes to Lexi's, the threat brewing clear there. That went beyond hate or wishing her death, he would just cause it and rid himself of his recurring babysitter. He remembered when Damon had killed Lexi right before his eyes, he still remembered how everything had drained out of him, how it felt as though his very feet had been kicked out from under him. Now at the thought of her ashen and still on the ground he felt nothing. It simply was what it was.

Stefan scoffed at the announcement he was a good person or the insinuation he wanted to be a good person. He wanted nothing of the sort. "You're not my best friend," he argued, "and I don't need you." He needed her like he needed a stake to the heart.

Then she mentioned Elena and Stefan looked toward the door. He remembered when he cared. He remembered still how he had felt about the brunette girl but it was like hearing a story about someone else. Now he was just numb. Elena was a name, a person like any other walking around, and he saw them as toys. "I remember," he told Lexi, nodding his head. "And now I don't give a crap." He tugged again at his restraints.

She was used to that too, he hated her right now, he wanted her to die, he wanted her to leave him alone because he was happy with how he was. He was happy killing. Only he wasn't, not really. Not where it counted because this thing in front of her, this barely functioning thing. It wasn't Stefan Salvatore. And Lexi planned to make it a whole lot worse before it got better, Stefan knew what was coming, for the most part at least. Lexi had prepared for this day hoping to whatever deity was bored that day that she'd never have to use it. But she needed to get to work here. Needed to make him think that he'd been longer without the blood than he had, manifest it physically. Lexi couldn't compel Stefan. But she could get in his head all the same.

"I am your best friend, and maybe someday you'll remember that. But right now, you go ahead and hate me sweetness, all its gonna do is make the time pass slower". Lexi hunkered down at eye level with the bound Stefan and gazed into his eyes, trying to work out how best to go about this, she needed to get in there, needed to get in his head and tear the bloodlust away, and she couldn't make him forget, couldn't make him flip the switch to humane again. So this was the best she had.

He'd been without blood over a week already, now it was a month. ..Two months, six, nine, a year. Lexi stood up and began to pace around him as she wove the hallucination into his psyche, she could feel how much he hated her, it was radiating off him like a beacon, and once he'd suffered a bit, once she thought he was ready, she'd bring down Elena. Because Elena meant hope. But not yet.

She walked to the door rifling through the bag she'd come in with, among other things it contained a stake. Nothing special, and she'd sworn to Elena he'd live through this. But she'd also told the girl that Stefan would have to hurt. Hurt meant pain and pain meant feeling something, and to quell the Ripper, Stefan needed to feel again.

"You do care. But right now all those years without the blood, its killing you right? You need it, you need it because its the only thing that gives you a kick anymore, blood and death. Well kiss it goodbye baby cause you know I'm not letting you out of here any time soon."

With that she drove the stake into his shoulder.

He glared hard at her, as though his very stare could produce the stake to end her. Again. But no matter how dangerous he looked nothing seemed to shake Lexi. As she lowered to his level he stared back defiantly.

Then the burn started. First in his skin, and then his muscles, until it ran through his veins. Stefan screamed as pain engulfed him and his thirst flared, begging him for a drink like he was a man lost for days in the desert. His yells didn't seem to stop her though. He cussed, he spat, and then he did nothing as his agony increased and he could focus only on that. Nothing else around him existed. Stefan fully expected to burst into flame at any moment, except he didn't.

He gasped and fought for breath only to yell anew as wood met his shoulder, piercing his skin and stinging through his body. Stefan shifted enough to give it a glance before growling in Lexi's direction. "It's won't work," he told her, his voice labored and exhausted. "Give up." Even with the blood dried from his system and the lust dammed back, it didn't change who or what he truly was.

It was working, Stefan was suffering without the blood. He was hallucinating it having left him for years now, he'd been without it a decade at this stage and it would only keep on going. And then, the pain. The pain that he needed because Stefan Salvatore needed to feel. He needed to suffer pain because pain was real. Pain was here and now and pain was what would break through the barrier. And though Lexi hated to hurt him, she would. Over and over, in every way she knew how because it was the only way he'd remember himself.

"Not a chance" she said coldly, to his order to give up. It would work. It had to work.

"Like I told you. You need to hope for something again. And maybe its friendship, maybe its that idiot brother of yours, or maybe its Elena Gilbert. But we're all worried about you and we all want to see you come through this, so...take your pick."

Lexi walked to the door and leaned into the grate to call for Elena to come in, because Stefan was secure, he was weak, and he was getting there. And it was going to be hard for the girl to see him like this, but she had to, because maybe she could do some good here. And much as it pained her to say it, maybe Damon would help someday too. If she could stomach him being around her for long enough of course. Elena called Lexi went back to her place in front of Stefan, pulling the stake from his shoulder and burying it in the other one.

"Focus" The pain would hopefully overwhelm the lust for the kill, for blood. "You focus on me, you focus on the friendship we have, you focus on it. Remember, think back and remember to better times. You hear me in there Stefan?"

Elena hadn't exactly been thrilled about the idea of not going down there right away, but she knew that if Stefan wasn't restrained, he could very well attack her. After all, his comments to her were far from the Stefan she knew. The one who had been her boyfriend before Katherine had shown up and forced them to break up. The one she had defied that order for which ended up with Aunt Jenna stabbing herself. The Stefan who had done everything to care for her. Deep down, Elena knew he was still in there, he had to be. He had told her to warn Damon about werewolves, which meant that he still cared, even when he claimed not to. But just because she knew that version of Stefan to be in him, that didn't mean that he was there right now. And as he was a week off of human blood, the chances of him attacking her were high, even with Lexi there. So while she didn't like the fact that Lexi had gone down by herself, Elena had accepted it and went to a room to put her stuff in as this was going to take time.

Still, Elena wasn't the type to just sit around. She had let Anakin know that she wasn't going to be at school, so he could at least get her assignments so she could work on them while she was here. She'd have to figure out an excuse, doctor's note, something to explain away her absence, however long it might be. But for now, she was waiting until Lexi thought it safe for her to go down to the panic room. After ten minutes or so, the brunette had decided to go see if Bobby needed help with anything. She knew that he enjoyed calling people idjit but she wouldn't let that phase her. She just wanted to do something, even if it was cook for the hunter helping with Stefan when undoubtedly his instincts were screaming at him to stake Stefan and leave it there. So what if it confused the man?

By the time she had cooked them both something to eat and they had finished, Lexi was calling her, so Elena told Bobby she'd take care of the dishes later and went down to the panic room. Looking at the door once down there, the teen took a deep breath before she slipped in.

Seeing Stefan as he was, it hurt. A lot. Because it was her fault he was there. But she had to tip Jo off. She should have said something sooner, but she hadn't known for certain. And even when she had, she had been naive enough to think she could find him and help. But she finally had told Jo because she knew what Stefan would do and it wasn't right. He would never forgive himself once he was himself again. He held onto that guilt to keep this from happening, she knew that. She didn't know just what he'd been before, she didn't know all of his secrets, but she still knew that the guilt kept him from this.

A year ago, she would have been horrified to see this. Lexi staking him in the shoulder, even with the warning earlier that she wouldn't like what she saw. And while it still hurt her to see him in this state, she also had been in Lawrence for nearly a year now and this place changed people in ways no one could understand. Made them harder. So closing her eyes, Elena took a deep breath before she opened them once more and looked at her ex.

"Stefan...."

She didn't know what to say, but she wanted to help, however she could.

One moment of pain blurred into the next. Hope? He had no hope for anything. No hope to be what he was, the feeling human-like creature Lexi wanted him to be. No hope of escape. He only existed and felt nothing but blood lust and now pain.

He gathered his breath while Lexi called for Elena though the break was short-lived before he yelled out again as the stake stabbed his other shoulder. He would kill her to get her away from him. He would rip her apart. Her friendship past, and claimed in the present, meant nothing to him. The good times she brought to mind didn't involve concerts and the Statue of Liberty but crimson, flowing blood and 1920s speakeasys. He emitted a guttural growl at the blonde and otherwise said nothing to her.

Elena's presence in the room brought a whole new element. Stefan raised his sweat covered, miserable face to her. He could smell her humanity and hear her blood pounding through her veins. Her humanness hypnotised him.

"Elena.." he returned, his voice strained. "Help me. Don't let her do anymore." He'd say anything to make Lexi stop trying.

Stefan did what Lexi knew from the start he'd do at the sight of Elena, beg her to help him, beg her to set him free because clearly Lexi was going too far, hurting him. Poor baby. The vampire turned to face Elena, drawing the stake out oh so slowly from a Stefan 30 years without blood. He'd hate her for a long time, but maybe she'd get her friend back along the way. "Don't listen. He'll say anything right now, he'll do anything, twist you if you let him because like this, he is oh so good at manipulating. He'll tell you he loves you, tell you he's better because you're here, you're his world. Am I close Stefan?"

The stake finally came free and Lexi looked at him critically for a moment.

"I've been telling our Ripper friend here about hope, about finding something, anything, important enough for him to hold on to as he recovers, something that can break through the haze of blood and anger that he's operating with. The urge to kill for someone like him, its immense, but I know this boy pretty well and I know that there's more in there than just a monster. So tell him Elena, tell him about the good parts. Tell him about you and him, about his life with you, at school, going back to school...I mean, I couldn't do it. I'd go slowly mad. But he did it, and he met you, right?"

She knew it wasn't the girl he loved he was focusing on, but her blood, her humanity. She had to break through that if she was ever gonna get him back.

"You want him back the way he was. Help him remember?"

Lexi kept a careful barrier between Stefan and Elena, because even bound, she was at risk, because even bound, he wanted to kill her more than anything and if he could, he would. Luckily Lexi knew well how tightly she'd bound him, and knew she was the stronger vampire. For now, that was enough. She didn't want to keep up the vervain as the others had, not unless she had to

Stefan's words, meant to seduce her into helping him, to call upon Elena's innate need to help and protect, did nothing but break her heart. Because even though she wanted to believe that this would be like it had been after Miss Mystic Falls, that it would be easy to convince him to return to how he'd been, Elena knew that was wishful thinking. She knew that because she had spoken to him and he sounded completely different from even when he'd been back on human blood before. He'd obviously been on blood longer and that would make coming off of it that much harder. She had fought enough with Jeremy after their parents died with his drug addiction, she knew how this could go. Yes, this was different. There hadn't been physical torture involved in helping Jeremy, but she knew the fights.

So as Stefan pleaded, Elena just sighed. She was going to respond but Lexi spoke up, telling her not to. Telling her he was going to say whatever she wanted to hear She knew this game. And she knew the angry words that would come, the pain. Even if she didn't love him as everyone thought she did and should, she still cared about him and they had shared so much. But she could handle it. She had to.

"I know." And she did. Of course, then Lexi was telling her what to say, telling her to help him. And that was why Elena was here, to help. But was it really right to tell him about them when there wasn't a them at the moment? At least not for her? She didn't know about Stefan, but how he was acting right now? No. Still, once he snapped out of it? Oh that was going to be a headache and Elena had no idea on what to do about it. But right now, she just had to help him snap out of this. She would deal with the relationship issue when it came up.

"Of course I do..."

Sighing, Elena just looked back to Stefan.

"I can't do that, Stefan. You might not see it, but this is to help you even if it hurts. But that's part of getting better." Did she like saying that? Of course not, but it was life. And Stefan of all people should know that given how long he'd been alive. But right, how to go about telling him about them, to make him remember what he was capable of, who he was beneath all of the blood lust.

Stefan hissed at the continuous burn of the stake. The problem with his immortality, and moreso with Lexi's, was that she very well could keep this up for eternity. His existence would become nothing but his imprisonment in this purgatory of dried out, rubbing veins and the burn of her stake. He raised his eyes to the blonde at her question, his mouth opening, the very words Lexi had just warned Elena about ready to flow from his mouth. It would be easy to lie to her. He remembered his feelings, even if they seemed ridiculous to him now. When he'd seen her walk into his cage--the first time he'd seen her since he'd walked away from her to make a deal and save his brother--he'd almost expected to feel something. And yet...

He could recall how the very sight of Elena had made him feel in past, and how ready he'd been to give himself up for her. Foolish. There were other, better things to live for now than some human girl. Even Katherine had known as much when she'd left him and Damon to die.

As Lexi coaxed Elena into a line of conversation, Stefan scoffed a laugh with his eyes on the floor. "I remember more than she even knows about," he returned. Elena had told him what had happened the last time she'd seen him, and strange as it sounded, so much more had happened since then. He'd saved her brother, gotten trapped with Katherine, and then freed; they'd reunited and gotten back together; he'd been determined to keep them strong and had done all he could to keep her safe on her terms without letting her sacrifice herself; and then he'd offered himself in place of her Aunt Jenna on the night Klaus had killed her. He remembered it all and she knew none of it. There was nothing she could tell him as he sat there, being tortured, that would convince him.

"None of that matters now." He raised his eyes to Elena, intent to continue working on her because he knew Lexi would never budge. But maybe if Elena talked her into it... Or if she came closer to him... "This won't work this time, Elena," he told her intently. "Tell her to let me go."

Lexi didn't quite know what it was but something was different, something was wrong under all of this and she couldn't put her finger on it, besides the obvious of course. Her best friend was no more than a monster and her usual tricks weren't working. Oh sure she'd get there, she'd do this for decades if she had to, just to get him back. But she'd thought bringing Elena here would help matters. She'd thought that just maybe it would do some good, make him remember. But Stefan was working around it, knowing she'd never stop, never let up, he'd go for Elena. He'd try to wear her down. It was cruel, it was heartless, it was very ripper mentality.

"You have to feel something, for me, for her, for your son of a bitch of a brother." she tried. Invoking Damon in all of this wasn't easy given what he'd done to her for reasons she still didn't know about, but it was another route to take. Damon had said he'd help with Stefan, talked a big talk about change. And though Lexi didn't trust him one bit, if he could get through to Stefan she'd deal with the devil.

"What you remember matters. I know you Stefan and I know Mystic Falls means something to you, the people there, your friends. You have friends you idiot. Can't you remember them?"

Maybe this was too soon, Maybe with Elena here. Maybe she needed to inflict more pain first. But she'd thought their bond would do something. She'd told Elena that when it was real, she'd know, and to Lexi she'd believed, she still believed, that it was real between them."

"She knows I'm not gonna let you go. She knows I'm gonna fix you, don't you Elena. Elena's gonna tell me how it happened, how you got like this, because in all this crazy. That's the one bit I still can't put a finger on. Is there a way I can blame bitchy McSlutvamp for this?"

Hearing the comment from Stefan about him remembering even more than she knew about, Elena could only purse her lips together because he was right. Elena had no idea what happened after she was kidnapped by Rose to be taken to Klaus. She didn't know if she got out or how, she didn't know how her relationships changed with either brother, and she didn't know about what had happened to Aunt Jenna. That information would kill her, really. To know that her aunt had been taken, turned into a vampire and killed... because of her. Because she was the Petrova Doppelganger and Klaus needed to kill a vampire, werewolf and her. She knew that werewolves were bad, the enemy. And something had happened to Damon with one because Stefan had told her to warn him about them... But she didn't know the details. She hadn't lived through what Stefan had anymore... Was he right? Would it do no good? Had they stayed broken up? Had something happened to make him doubt that she even cared about him?

If there was something that could be said about Elena it was that she cared too much. She worried. She wanted to take care of people, help them. But half the time, she was turned away because she was just human. Because how could she possibly understand? She wasn't a witch, she wasn't a vampire. She was just human. And each time, that hurt. This was going to be one of those situations and Elena knew it. Because Stefan wasn't as he had been after Miss Mystic Falls. He seemed to relish in the blood, the killing. She had heard Lexi's comment, about him being a Ripper, and while she didn't know exactly what it meant as it wasn't explained, she could tell that it was serious. And the proof was right in front of her.

The other vampire wanting her to tell her what happened though? How could Elena do that if she herself hadn't been there? How could Elena possibly know when she'd been here for nearly a year now and Stefan only a few months, they had already discussed that they were from different points in their timeline and Stefan had never given her an answer on what had happened...

Letting out a slow breath, Elena made her way closer to Stefan, not close enough to be grabbed, but closer, kneeling down so that they were eye level.

"I'm not doing that, Stefan. Because while you don't think it will work, Lexi and I know it will. What happened, Stefan? You say you just gave into your nature but all of us know that's not the case. What made you start drinking human blood again? Why throw everything you've worked on away?" She had her theories, of course. It was Stefan. No matter what he claimed, he would never just 'give in' to it. There had been something that made him..... "Who are you trying to protect?" It was a guess, but Elena knew that Stefan would do anything for her, or admit it or not, Damon. Even if she didn't know what had happened after she was brought here, she knew that Stefan couldn't have changed that much. So she was going to make her guess and she'd keep guessing until she got them their answer.
