As the stake had hit her square in the heart, driven there by someone with strength enough to do it, not to mention someone that knew how, Lexi could only manage a single word, a single question as she felt her long life slipping away from her, she managed to raise her eyes to Damon Salvatore, her killer, and ask him simply, why?. Part of the plan he'd said. Part of the plan. Lexi had always known Damon was going to be trouble, she'd known it from the first time she'd met him, from the first time she'd talked about him to Stefan. Trouble with a capital T. As Lexi slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground her last thoughts were of his brother, and how he would cope without her and her lover, her Lee. What would he do now. He'd been troubled when she'd met him and now...what would Lee do now? She hoped he wouldn't think revenge but it was always possible. Death seemed to follow Damon around like the plague, and he didn't ever seem to mind. He was the bad parts of their vampiric existence she'd told him so once.
He always had let that hatred get the best of him. And now it had killed her.
Lexi of course did not expect to wake up again, she'd always been of the opinion that you died, you were done, you were dust. Especially if you'd cheated death once before. Nor did she expect to wake up on a street. Least it was a street at night. Could have been the shortest unexpected resurrection in the history of time. The vampire looked around, trying to get her bearings and wondered just what she was supposed to do now. Figuring out where she was would be a plan. With a little wandering and a little compelling Lexi managed to work out the following.
1. Lawrence Kansas. December 2011
2. She was not the first to have wound up here out of the blue
And 3. She could find the answers she needed on the Internet.
Freaking Internet, she both loved and hated its invention in equal measure. But as she send the guy she'd compelled on his way free will intact and sat down at a computer in a net cafe she was thankful for the world wide web and the answers it would hopefully provide. And she was alive, ...for a given value of the word. She figured that was worth any weirdness she'd walked into. She'd get back to Mystic Falls. She'd work out what was going on.
Then she'd deal with Damon Salvatore. Because she had words to have with him.
