He didn't mind her opening up to him. It came as a surprise, a very big surprise, but Sam understood what it felt like when one kept things bottled up and locked away. After all, it was what he mostly did himself. While he was more confident that he'd be less likely to explode than Chloe was, it hardly changed the fact that he was able to understand where she was coming from.
"It's okay," he assured her, pressing on that polite smile that he had perfected over the years. "It's not going to be easy for you here - that's a given. But I promise you that things will be fine. We're gonna take care of you here, all right?" Only if she didn't do anything stupid and reckless. They couldn't take care of anyone if they didn't know what to expect from them. What if Chloe actually thought that she could handle demons because of her possession experience prior to being here? What if she underestimated everything? He looked at her cautiously for a moment, as if he was uncertain about what she might do, then he shook his head and released his hold on the steering wheel. It was a tense looking position. He tried to look a little more relaxed.
It kind of makes me think there has to be something worse out there that can defeat them. A slight twinge of guilt dug into him, but Sam said nothing in response to that. What was he supposed to say? That he was the one practicing in the dark with a demon so that he could kill Lilith off? No, that was a secret. It'd always be a secret.
The research talk, however, appeared to be something of interest to him. He sat up a little. "Actually, that'd be really useful. I've been sort of looking into it myself, but there's nothing substantial coming out of my work as of yet. I haven't really had too much time to dig into it when I'm not in the city. But maybe you could contact someone who might be willing to work with you on this in depth? There's a hunter - well, his name is Bobby. I think you ought to look into talking to him about all this. He's the genius behind...well." Sam grinned a little, shaking his head. "Pretty much everything."
He caught sight of Chloe reaching for the door handle. Sam immediately shifted, reaching into the pocket of his jacket for the flask he had tucked away inside. He didn't feel quite comfortable knowing that someone as new as Chloe was venturing out on her own, so he offered it to her. "Here. It's got holy water inside. It'll fend off the demons if you use it right. Not enough to make them run away, but it'll hold them off so you can get the hell outta there if they show."
