When Sam had decided to speak with Chloe, he certainly hadn't expected to hear her life story. It was usually very difficult to get someone to open up about things, especially when it seemed that their life had been that complicated and different. Momentarily, Sam said nothing. He gripped at the steering wheel in his hands tightly, eyes focusing on the road. Dean would throttle him if he crashed his baby; as such, Sam was motivated to be as cautious driving as he could be. When he was halfway finished processing what he had been told, Sam cast Chloe a sideways glance, frowning.
"You didn't have to tell me all of that," he said quietly. It wasn't that he didn't care - Sam did, very much - but he was still surprised that she had told all of that information to a complete and total stranger. Maybe she had just needed to spill, as she'd stated. Sam didn't mind being the ear to her issues for now, so he drew in a slow breath and let it out, turning the wheel once more.
"I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that, Chloe," he expressed, brows knitting together in concern. Maybe before after all of these people had arrived he would have been skeptical about aliens and everything that he had just been told, but Sam was learning that almost anything could happen to people from different universes. It was all odd and different when these were things that he didn't know about or understand, but Sam was adjusting. He had to keep an open mind, otherwise he'd never get anywhere with these people. "It sounds horrible. And not a lot of people would be able to live with those kind of experiences trapped in their head." Let alone their emotions. Sam knew what it was like to struggle and go through things that the world didn't, let alone things that most people weren't even aware of. "That said, I know that your time here isn't going to be easy. From the sounds of it, you just came back from a pretty tough place and I'm sorry about that, but...it's not gonna get any easier here. In fact, it might even end up being worse. We're in the middle of a war." He looked to her, offering Chloe a sad sort of smile. "And because you've been brought here, that automatically makes you a target. Lilith wants you. She wants anyone who came through that seal, which means that you can't let the past cloud your judgment. You said earlier that a demon possession wouldn't be anything new - but it is. It's entirely new. And it's something that we might not ever be able to save you from if you get caught into one, so I need you to keep your head down and be as careful as you can while you're here, all right?"
The Impala slowly pulled up to a curb, just outside of Starbucks. Sam didn't intend on bidding Chloe off just yet, so he leaned back and looked at her quietly. "Did you get the protection amulet? They can't possess you if you're wearing one."
