There he was, presence appearing like a bright light in her mind, and Jaina smiled to herself for a second before she turned to face him. The smile didn’t fade any when she did, though - probably wouldn’t have even if she’d tried to look serious, because she was genuinely happy to see him - happy that he’d come when she’d called to him.
Of course he did, she reminded herself - she hadn’t really thought that he wouldn’t. She didn’t have to worry about that, not anymore. It was Jacen who thought there was some reason to doubt him, not her. And if Gabriel hadn’t appeared, she was sure there would have been a good reason for it. Like if Lucifer was watching, or if he was doing something more important. Jacen wasn’t right about him, and she wasn’t going to let her brother’s disbelief shadow her own faith.
>“What's the occasion? Did ya miss little old me?”
The smile she offered in return was a little crooked, and she lifted one shoulder slightly in a shrug. “Maybe,” because, yeah, she did. She always missed him when he wasn’t around. And, okay, so this was supposed to be some kind of serious conversation about him and his tendency to do stupid things to piss off people and things that wanted him dead, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t move in for a hug. She wanted to enjoy the time she had with him, before his grin faded and things turned serious.
Jaina wished that was the only reason she’d called him here. It seemed like every time she wanted to see him, it was when something had happened and she either needed to talk to him, or needed to reassure herself that he was, in fact, very much alive and well. It was never just because, and that ...really kriffing sucked. It was the end of the world, maybe - shouldn’t they be able to spend time together just because? One of these days, she decided, she was going to just steal him for a day of nothing except his company. No serious conversations and no family drama interrupting or upsetting things - on either of their sides.
That wasn’t the plan for tonight, though, whether she wanted it to be or not.
