Really, Anatoly was just glad that he finally got Svetlana to get out of the apartment for a while that didn't involve driving the girls to or from school or anything of that sort. He was still very much doing damage control and trying to get Svetlana to sleep and doing his best to make sure the girls were okay. It was generally hard work, but he was going to do it. Anything that would help the girls settle down and for Svetlana to relax a little.
He was a minute behind Svetlana, having taken slightly longer getting dressed. He was a little nervous for this night, and he really didn't want to say anything that provoked a fight. It their wedding anniversary, and he did need to get her to soften slightly, to melt the ice. Or he could just continue trying to chip away at it little by little. It would take a long time that way, but it was better than throwing emotion at her right now. Anatoly didn't need her to retreat further after everything that had happened.
When he stepped off the elevator, it was in time for him to see the scene and the proposal. He stopped in his tracks, making the same trip to his own proposal to Svetlana that she was making. Anatoly wasn't even sure what to think on the matter. He was happy because Florence deserved to be happy. Of course he really didn't think Freddie was the guy to do that, but it wasn't his place to say anything, so he wouldn't. He hoped that Freddie would stop harassing him about Florence, but he knew that would never happen, no matter what. So he'd just try and accept it and move on with his life, trying to avoid the American as much as possible. After all, he really didn't want to sit and fight with Freddie.
As usual, he kept a stoic expression, trying to keep himself a neutral party despite knowing he was more in the middle of it all. Had things gone slightly differently in Merano, this scene might have taken place then. Or even in Bangkok had he not spent the year with Florence. There were a lot of mistakes he'd made in his life, and he knew he'd done wrong to Florence. He also knew he needed to talk to her about it, but it was a hard thing for him to do right now. Things were awkward between him and Florence, he knew that and knew he was the cause of it, and he didn't handle awkward well at all. And on top of that, he was still worried his daughters were going to somehow drop dead along with Svetlana, so he was a little preoccupied with other things. When, or rather if things calmed down enough and his family wasn't in imminent danger of dying, he'd try talking to Florence.
Anatoly also wasn't sure if he should try to congratulate Florence and Freddie on the engagement. It would probably cause World War III instead of being taken as an actual congratulations. So he should probably just keep his mouth shut for now. And he was down here for a reason. He spotted Svetlana rubbing her temples, and he made his way over to her, all the while looking for an escape before getting noticed.
