Brittany hadn’t thought there was anything wrong with just going by first names. She was pretty sure that most of the kids at McKinley had gone for almost a year thinking that she didn’t have a last name. As long as she was the only Brittany at the complex, she figured that she was okay with just one name.
“Oh, yeah,” She nodded, answering Pete’s question in the affirmative. “Captain really likes to talk. He’s a very outgoing cat.” Brittany smiled down at the diminutive animal. “So far he’s learned to say his name, ‘fish’, and some other stuff. Haven’t you?” She asked Captain the question in a slightly higher pitched voice like one uses to talk to a baby. Brittany didn’t think to explain just how her new cat was able to verbally express himself.
“Captain.” The kitten responded, Brittany smiling in approval.
“Once he learns some more words I think I’m going to teach him how to play checkers.” She nodded.
