“I think he’s too tiny for a leash. It might slip off and he could run away and get lost.” Brittany smiled a little and gave Captain a tiny scratch behind his ear. “He doesn’t know his way around here yet.”
“Scratching!” The tiny voice from the thought translator came along with a contented purr. Captain nuzzled up close to Brittany and she laughed quietly. The idea of an honest-to-god talking cat hadn’t yet lost its novelty and she still found it to be the most delightful thing next to unicorns.
“I’m Brittany.” She nodded her ‘hello’ instead of waving or shaking the man’s hand as her arms were currently occupied with holding onto the kitten. “This is Captain.”
“Captain!” The kitten let out a little mewling noise, looking as adorable as any furry orange kitten that had ever lived. While it was still a new thing, the collar that allowed Captain to express himself didn’t strike Brittany as being weird or bizarre at all.
