Who: Brittany, Captain, and OTA What: Brittany can’t seem to teach Captain how to play Checkers, so they’re going to explore the complex. Want to interact with a talking kitten? You’re welcome to join in. Where: The complex. When: Evening time, present day
Brittany sat Indian style on the floor of her apartment, a checkers board sitting between her and Captain. While she was very intent with teaching him the game he seemed very intent on nibbling on a sock he’d found under her bed.
“What you have to do...” She started to explain the rules of the game, but trailed off with a frown. “Captain, I don’t think you’re concentrating.”
“Captain!” His thought translator collar announced his name in a cheery tone. He batted at the balled up sock with his tiny paw, starting to look like he was attempting to wrestle with the article of clothing. Even Brittany, who tried to keep her expression even and stern, cracked a little smile.
“You have to take these discs--”
“Fish!” The cheery voice interrupted her. Captain had caught sight of Hillbilly Handfishin’ on Brittany’s television and soon he had climbed up onto a table, as close to the TV screen as the little ball of fur could get. The kitten put a paw to the screen as if he could reach through the glass and catch a catfish for himself. Brittany could only shake her head. It was clear that there wouldn’t be any learning tonight.
“Let’s explore the complex, Captain.” The orange ball of fluff seemed quite focused on the TV show until Brittany scooped him up into her arms, letting out a tiny mew of a protest.
“Fish!” He insisted, but Brittany held onto him securely as she made her way out the door. They’d find something to do.
