Kimberly grinned and feigned looking scandalized. "An English man marrying an American woman? The horror," she joked. She knew what he meant, with celebrity marriages falling apart most of the time even faster than they'd bloomed, but she still found it amusing that he'd felt the need to point out where each member of the marriage had come from. The parallel, whether or not intentional, was not lost on her. In fact, it made her smile just a bit.
When Connor turned to face her to answer her question, Kimberly leaned in toward him subtly. It wasn't even necessarily that she'd meant to do so or even realized she was doing it. She'd picked it up from Shaina back in high school and it had become second nature. When interested in someone, lean toward them. When trying to show them you want them to back off, cross your arms or step back. She tried to ignore the fact that Connor's arms were crossed just then. Although, when her brain processed that particular bit of his body language, she stood up straighter and leaned back a bit, her hands on the counter, still, all without realizing she'd moved at all.
"What kind of special projects?" was the reflexive question. A second after she said it, though, she realized that, not only was she being a little too predictable, but if he hadn't specified to begin with, there was probably a reason for that. "Or is it too hush hush?" she tacked on for good measure, mostly to let him know that she wasn't going to push or prod if he wanted the subject dropped after that.
