For the first time in a long time, Isabel felt guilty about the things she’d done to keep her little secret. It was only something she felt when she lied to her parents, but now that handful of people included Connor.
“Well, I’m telling you now, right?” She gave a pathetic attempt at a smile, trying to ease up the situation just slightly. He’d been so suspicious of her after her last visit to his dreams and she had just shrugged off every question he had. Yes, that heavy feeling in her chest was definitely guilt.
“No, I’m from...” What honest answer could she give? She’d never explained to anyone how she’d incubated in a glowing green pod for all of those years. She didn’t know how. Isabel was afraid any average human would be disgusted by that kind of thing. “I’m from somewhere else. I was left in Roswell with two others. Hidden. You’re the only human who really knows.”
Isabel looked up to him with an uncharacteristic pleading expression on her face. “You can’t go around telling everyone what I am, though.”
