The space bugs had been horrific. Maureen hadn't left her room during that whole thing. People that had power were having trouble with those things, so she knew she didn't stand a chance. So she chose being safe over being stupid. But not all evil here was as easy to hide from, as Famine had shown. But Mark was right, she didn't want to dwell on what could be lurking around the corner. She wanted to go about her life as normal, though that was easier said than done these days.
Maureen looked at Mark. "I'd say more nerdy than cheesy. Remember who you're talking to here." Especially when he made the Mickey Rooney reference. She could only shake her head a bit at him. "You are such a nerd, Mark. But with all the performers here, I actually think it's a good idea." As she heard what Mark said next, she was a bit surprised. It had been a while since she'd heard anyone say she had a lot to offer. "Definitely like old times. I like that, actually. Some semblance of normalcy, you know?" It would be a very good idea to do that, getting back to something that resembled home. It would undoubtedly help her get her spirits back, maybe even help her get off the cycle of booze and sex she'd been on.
She returned the smile gently. In that moment, she couldn't help but feel sorry for what she'd put him through. Maureen was a drama queen more often than not and she took people on a long rollercoaster ride. She turned them all inside and out to suit her own needs. Well, except for Joanne. Joanne was the only one that actually stood up to her when it mattered. Mark was a great guy that hadn't deserved what she'd put him through. Why she was having this moment of humanity was beyond her. Perhaps it was the after effects of Famine, of her finally seeing what she was doing. Perhaps it was the fact Mark had come up to see her, to be a friend when she needed someone.
"I think you should totally do the show. It's a good idea. I'd take part in it, that's for sure." And she would because what else did she have to do? Working on a routine would help her get her mind off things, help her refocus herself. Leave it to Mark to show her that right when she needed it. She needed to find her fire again, and perhaps this was the way to do so.
