"I'd never bother suing you, Maureen," Mark shot back, still smiling. "What's half of nothing? What a waste of a lawsuit!" To be honest, Mark was just desperate to see her smile. This wasn't the girl he knew. Fun and exciting and able to make people turn heads just by existing? Yeah, the woman in her pjs and the weak expression wasn't going to be managing that any time soon.
Sure, he could have launched into a lecture. Or come right out and asked what was going on. But that wasn't likely to get him far. Hell, maybe all she needed was someone to hang out with. He could do that. In fact, he'd been pretty damn good at it once upon a time.
"I'm actually kind of disappointed you haven't come by the deli," Mark said with a shrug. "What's the point of being able to sneak my friends free food when said friends aren't around?" Either that or she'd accuse him of selling out. Which was somewhat true. Imagine if she knew he was considering doing wedding and party videos. It would make Buzzline look downright exotic.
