WHO: Sam & Epiphany WHAT: Sam goes to pick up a potion. The trip isn't as simple as he had hoped it would be. WHEN: Post Sam's hunt with Tonks! Forward dated to Monday morning-ish. WHERE: Epiphany's place. RATING: High, probably.
It only seemed right that Sam try and do something to help Adam. No, he couldn't take Hell away from him, nor could he turn back a clock and stop him from making that damned deal, but he could do his part by making the weight that had been thrown onto him a little easier. If that meant he had to dig into every resource he had available, then so be it. Adam was his brother. Sam was willing to do near anything to make sure that he got through all of this okay. Yeah, well. As okay as someone who had just walked away from being tortured down in the pit for years could be, anyway.
The easiest, non-mind wipey way that Sam could think of to help was by asking Epiphany to brew up a couple potions that would help Adam sleep better at night. If Adam was taking to Hell even a little like Dean had, he was probably having a terrible time getting to sleep. And if he did manage sleep? It probably didn't last for very long. Nightmares. Dean didn't really like talking about them, but Sam wasn't stupid. It was Hell that had kept him tossing and turning at night, leading into non-stop spurts of drinking, which only ended in bad topped with even more bad. Sam figured it might well have worked the same way for Adam, too, so some kind of sleep aid seemed to be a good way to go. He didn't want Adam to cope with all this the same way Dean had and still sometimes did. He didn't deserve it. Neither of them deserved it. Fortunately, Epiphany had been more than agreeable on the matter, so they worked themselves out an arrangement and now, after his hunt with Tonks, Sam was swinging back around to Lawrence before returning to resume his role in the training camp at Bobby's place in South Dakota.
It was supposed to be a quick stop. In and out, that was all. With so much piled onto his plate nowadays (which was probably for the better, right? He had to keep working, he had to keep helping and making some kind of difference out there), Sam didn't really have much time to stick around Lawrence. Little did Sam know, the trip he was making now had been timed pretty awfully. Epiphany hadn't had a warning in advance because Sam hadn't thought to call ahead. He didn't think it was that big a deal ; he had stopped around plenty of times before without much warning, mostly when he had needed a quick fix-up when his demon blood withdrawals got bad, and Epiphany hadn't seemed too bothered by it, so Sam didn't think him showing up like this (especially since he had meant to pick up the potion days ago) would be that big a deal.
Oh, how wrong he was going to be.
After parking the car he had borrowed (one of Bobby's old beaters that he'd taken up from salvage yard), Sam made his way into the apartment building, quietly going over his schedule while walking the familiar path to Epiphany's place. He was stopped only once by Nathan, who had irritatingly felt it necessary to ask Sam if he'd rather have sex with a gorilla or a horse (Sam didn't dignify him with a response), but it didn't take Sam very long to find Epiphany's door.
