Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:jon snow, quinn fabray

WHO: Ned's bastard Jon Snow, Ghost, and Quinn.
WHAT: New arrival!
WHEN: Late afternoon.
WHERE: In a quiet downtown area.
RATING: PG to start.

Blinding white and bitter cold had been all that Jon had known for some time upon his journey beyond the Wall alongside his brothers. His fingers had frozen stiff, even beneath the fabric of his gloves, and every waking inch of him ached in such a way that Jon worried he'd never feel the satisfying warmth of a fire again. Yet he continued on, saddled upon his horse, teeth grit tight and dark eyes fixed clear on the direction in which he and the others traveled, hope of finding some welcome sign of his Uncle carrying him on. The evidence as to the fate of the others who had departed with his Uncle were far from in his favor, what with Uncle Benjen's party having been found ravaged, cold, and dead, but Jon could do no less than hope for something more. Though, deep down in his gut, he knew that he would have greatly preferred that his Uncle be dead and gone than that horrifying creature that he faced at Castle Black, so pale and empty, yet undeniably vicious all at once. The dead, fully resurrected -- and so, finally, a part of all the wild tales he'd heard as a child about the happenings of the Wall had come true. Notably, it was a truth that he could have done without. As far as Jon Snow was concerned, after setting that thing aflame at Castle Black, that particular story would have been better off remaining as such.

But it hadn't.

Jon shuddered and, without a moment to debate on the matter, he knew that it was the memory of what he had witnessed that night that had brought on the action, not the unbearable cold he was battling now. He reached up to adjust the dark furs around his neck, tightening it a bit more as he blinked snow from his eyes.

One of the men to his right muttered something against the cruel howl of snowy wind that surrounded them, but the words came out inaudible. Curious, Jon turned his head, but found that his companions were no longer attempting to guide their horses through the deep trenches of snow that they had set themselves upon. Instead, there was a path made of dark rock, traveling upward along the range of area expanded ahead. Strange looking houses spread out beyond it, split between unusually built towers of stone and glass that Jon had never witnessed before in his entire life. To make the sudden view all the more unusual, Jon found that there wasn't a single trace of snow anywhere.

Jon turned to look to his right. More of the same, with no sign of the scouts that he had traveled outward with. He gripped at the reigns of his horse tightly, bringing the creature to a halt so that he could fully process as to what in the seven hells had happened.

This wasn't right. This was not where he was supposed to be. Surely, this was not what lay beyond the Wall?

A low growl erupted from behind him and Jon turned on his saddle to look at his albino direwolf, who had been loyally following Jon along with the scouts. "Quiet, Ghost," Jon muttered, legs swinging off the side of his horse so that he could better take in all that was happening.

He was doing well to avoid panic. He was a member of the Night's Watch now and there was no use in shouting and screaming, was there? Jon Snow was no coward. Then again, he was no fool either, and he certainly wasn't about to walk into whatever this place was, with all his companions save Ghost missing, without being attentively wary. A hand was quick to find his sword. Jon didn't unsheathe Longclaw, but he gripped it tightly, prepared to turn about and face whatever creature responsible that he may well find, should it choose to attack him.

Quinn Fabray had expected a few things from her day out with her little girl. A walk in the park. Ice Creams, cleaning said Ice Creams off of Beth. Meeting Puck for Lunch. Taking Beth to the swingset not far from the complex. Pushing her on the swings and being mildly terrified of every inch the little girl swung higher even though she was controlling it. Quinn had not expected a horse. She had not expected a man on a horse. And she definitely definitely had not expected the giant freaking wolf thing that trotted alongside it. That the man wore a sword was the least of her worries really showed how long she'd been here.

"Um...Hi." she said simply as the house came to a stop not far from her. Her words were to the man but her eyes never left the wolf as she pulled Beth into her arms trying not to let her little girl see her fear. The man had appeared from nowhere so he was new here. Pulled by the seal into this world to fight its war.

But on what side. And why did he have a giant wolf

"I'm gonna go ahead and guess you're new here. You were somewhere else till just a bit ago and now you find yourself here. So I'm gonna ask that you bear with me and I'll explain everything. Can you just...call off your wolf thing. My little girl is very young still and he's nearly bigger than me let alone her so...yeah. That would help. Lots really.

Jon took his horse by the reigns and began to walk carefully. Ghost closely followed at his heels, sniffing uncertainly at the black rock they walked upon, likely as disgruntled and confused about the sudden course of events as Jon was himself. Carefully, the trio ventured onward, finding the corner of a quiet path that expanded outward into yet more of the unusually even black rock that appeared to be guiding them along. The dark material wrapped around him felt considerably heavy upon his shoulders and it was only when Jon shrugged it upward that he found that it was actually quite warm outside. It was a warmth he did not know, very different from that of a fire's light. The temperature reminded him of all the talk of Kings Landing and the areas that surrounded it ; it was said that their summer was much more pleasant and rich than that of Winterfell's and, if this was anything like the summer that they experienced below his former home, Jon felt he was going to have to be inclined to agree. They certainly would have had no need for furs to protect them from the bitter cold.

It was like that here, perhaps. The warmth of the south. Very warm, in fact. Jon loosened his collar and frowned, stopping at a corner of all black rock, which was met by a brighter form of rock that led to some of the strangely shaped houses that surrounded them. It was evident that the area was inhabited by someone, though it's occupants appeared to be out of range or far too disinterested to be bothered with him to begin with.

He saw no one, so it had to have been the former. At least, it had seemed as such until Ghost began to growl once more, directing Jon's attention to a woman carrying a child in her arms. She had yellow hair and wore clothes that Jon had never seen before in all his life and, for a moment, he found he could do nothing short of stare at her.

But then she spoke, declaring him 'new' and leaving him a promise of the answers he had been searching for. Her words were quickly followed by an uncertain request for him to call Ghost off, who had seemed so affronted by the entire change of environment that he had yet to stop growling at the young woman and her child, even though it was quite clear that neither were a threat to either of them.

"Ghost," Jon warned and the direwolf immediately sat on it's legs, still eying the woman suspiciously nonetheless. "Don't worry," Jon said, "he will not harm you unless I command it." Jon had no intention in doing so. There was no honor in harming women or children, particularly when they had done nothing wrong. As far as Jon knew, at least. "My name is Jon Snow and I am of the Night's Watch. I crossed the Wall with a group of scouts, but they vanished and I found myself here. What do you know of this place? Do know what happened to them?"

Ghost was its name. The giant wolf thing. And she'd been right and it was his, he commanded it and it backed off, but it was still staring at her and it made Quinn more than a little nervous. But she wouldn't show it or Beth would cry. And who knew what it would do then. Instead she just nodded and stepped back a little as he explained who he was. Jon Snow of something called the Nights Watch. "I'm Quinn" she replied after a few seconds. "Quinn Fabray of the...New Directions?" she tried. It seemed more than a little random but there it was. She pulled Beth in closer to her chest and looked up at the man on the horse. It was a nice horse too, she knew horses.

What she noticed next was how he was dressed, all furs and warm winter stuff right out of Lord of the Rings and with rapidly melting snow still hidden at the edges of the fur. She was more than a little confused by the whole thing but the seal had brought those Lannister guys and that pirate. People who didn't belong in so modern a world as the one she knew. Maybe Jon was from somewhere like that.

She wondered what the seal wanted with them.

"Okay." she tried. "I'm gonna trust you, and your giant wolf thing not to eat my baby. You're new here so you deserve to know. Truth is, you're sort of...stuck here, and your scouts, they're still where you were. Now I dunno how it works, if there's a Jon with them or if they're looking for you. There's a couple of theories. But...anyway this place is called Lawrence, Kansas, in a country called America. And its fighting a war against...well you mightn't believe me, but evil things, demons and...hah...ghosts. But like, actual ones. Spirits. I've been here over a year now. I gave birth to my daughter here. We're here to aid the war. Be it fighting or helping those that do. But we've been uh, chosen. So, that's why..."

She shrugged slightly. "I can help you. I can show you where a lot of us stay, and find somewhere for Ghost and...does the horse have a name?"

Quinn Fabray of the New Directions. The name was unique enough in it's own right, but it was the title of her allegiance that brought a frown to his lips. Jon may not have had the opportunity to travel throughout the various seven kingdoms as many others who had passed through Winterfell over the years had claimed to have done themselves, but the gossip shared among travelers during meals had taught him a many great things. The existence of this thing called 'New Directions' was not one of them. Another unwanted curiosity, paired off with the strange look of the world that surrounded him. Though Jon did not want to abandon the mission that he had set out on, he was beginning to wonder if perhaps he should have never left the Wall to begin with. Was this what had happened to his uncle Benjen? Was he here?

"Ghost will not harm either of you," Jon assured her, "you have my word." Ghost may not have appeared to be enthused about their current circumstances, but he still remained loyal to Jon. Even in his uncertainty, the albino direwolf sat and waited. His red eyes did not leave Quinn.

Jon gave Quinn the chance to explain, though it was clear as day that he was far from pleased by her words. She said he was stuck. In Lawrence, Kansas -- in a completely different country? -- which was caught up in some sort of war waged against demons and ghosts. Some time ago, Jon would have scoffed and laughed at her talk of such things, but the mere mention of spirits brought the fresh memory of the wight he had set aflame at Castle Black to mind. He kept his mouth shut on the matter.

Jon had much to say about the other things mentioned, however.

"You speak of magic," Jon said warily, "one simply does not walk from the Wall and end up here. I don't know of this place, nor have I heard talk of any war besides that of the Starks and Lannisters." The war he should have been fighting in. He would have been, if he wasn't bound to his duties at the Wall. What were the scouts going to say when they found him suddenly gone? Would they consider him a coward? Would they say he had abandoned his post? It seemed likely that they would assume he had run off to join Robb and the others at the first chance he had gotten.

They would want his head. Jon swallowed hard at the thought.

He ignored her question about his horse and looked at Quinn warily, child in her arms and all. "How do I know this is not a trick?"

Well it was nice that he said it. With the not harming. Because really, scary white wolf thing was scary. And intimidating. And growling. And generally not filling her with any kind of great trust in the fact it wasn’t going to eat her or Beth. So she just went with it for now, she had his word, and the thing had sat down even though it was staring at her entirely creepily. This Jon really better know what he was talking about when it came to it. Creepy red eyed thing. His freaking out about magic and leaving this Wall place though was much more familiar to her than anything else. So that helped. “Its not normal no. I was in Lima Ohio before I came here. I was pregnant with Beth then too. So y’know. It really doesn’t care who it pulls here. But there really is a war and apparently we all have a...”

What he’d said finally caught up to Quinn and she blinked.

“Lannisters. I know that name, there are brothers here, um Jaime, he’s the pretty one who’s some kind of knight type and then there’s a...” What did you say to be PC about it? Little person sounded so patronizing and the guy was kinda awesome. “His name is Tyrion. They arrived here around the same time, a month or so back. So you’ll have some people from your world here anyway! That’s good right?”

As for the last question. Who the heck did he think she was? “If it was trick. Would I come alone with a baby? You’re on a horse, your wolf thing hasn’t taken his eyes off me since I got here. You’ve got a sword, I don’t have any weapons at all. Look I’m serious. I’m just a Mom. Trapped here just the same as you but willing to help you find somewhere to keep safe from the craziness. Willing to explain the little I know about all this. If you want I mean. If not you can just walk away and find your own path. But you are trapped here. That much won’t change. I’m sorry.”

It was harsh sure. But he had to hear it. And Quinn was willing to help him if he stopped treating her like a threat.
