“Tattoo?” Claire repeated to herself and then her brow furrowed. She wondered if she could even get a tattoo. Wouldn’t the skin just regenerate or heal or something – or just flat out reject the ink. She’d have to add that to the list of things to try, once she got herself sorted out here. She tugged slightly on the charm chain, checking the strength of it. She knew very little about demon possession, most of it came from hearing Zach and his friends talk about movies and video games when she sat with them at lunch. She knew it was bad – obviously, her getting possessed though might be a little bit worse than if it happened to a normal person.
“Magic,” Claire felt like a parrot, repeating his words. “So it’s not an evolved mutation or something...” her voice trailed off and she scratched her head, wincing slightly because it got itchier as she did so due to the dried blood. “It’s just,” she sighed slightly, pursing her lips.
This was a lot to take in. A bit too much, actually. Claire could feel herself starting to fray at the edges; if she didn’t keep herself together she was going to start yelling or crying, or maybe both in a matter of seconds.
“You’re the first person I’ve met who can do stuff,” she paused again. In all honesty, she had no idea if she could even trust Loki, at the same time a tiny part of her wanted too, besides he hadn’t tried to kill her yet, which definitely won him points. Besides, if she couldn’t trust him what was the worst he could do to her...actually, she didn’t want to know.
“I died,” she finally blurted. “Right before coming here, some guy attacked my friend, and he killed me,” she really hoped she didn’t come across like a crazy person. “But...I can’t die, not really. And trust me I’ve tried pretty much everything asides from shooting myself,” now that Claire was talking, it was like she couldn’t stop. “All this time I was thinking I’m a freak, which I am but...I’m pretty sure I’m not magic, just...” she didn’t even know what to call it. The book she read talked about evolved humans who could do amazing things no one else could. Right now, however, Claire didn’t feel amazing, she felt alone and scared and more like a freak than ever.
