It all felt so foreign and familiar at the same time. Ruby had been away for a few months, but Sam felt like it had been far longer than that since the last time that he had seen her. He was out of practice with the being close with a woman thing. Knowing Ruby, that was subject to change soon enough. He liked being near her. Even just hugging her - ha, Sam Winchester hugging a demon - was satisfactory. He just needed to be with her. Arms tightening just a little around her, Sam kissed the top of her head and smiled. "Not being knocked flat on my ass by a tiny demon is also turning out to be a nice change. I approve."
The spell had gone down nicely, obviously, because she was there. But Sam worried that he might have screwed up in some tiny way, making the ride difficult for her or painful or something. She seemed to be all right though, so Sam felt reassured. Magic was serious, she had been right about that. One mistake could screw up everything, leading to nothing but bad things.
"Better now that you're here," Sam replied, finding that he did genuinely feel that way. Hunting had been the hard work that it always had been. The added pressure of Lilith and Dean's stability was always an issue, but that was all shoved to the back of his mind for now. He needed a break. Even if it was just for a couple hours. Two months of constant worry and work? Sam deserved this. And the alcohol spree from last night as well. "Dean's been a mess and Bobby keeps dialing us about all these weird cases." Sam slowly withdrew from the hug, keeping one hand on her shoulder. "He's been getting all these weird omens. It's been bad."
