Elle was hugely tempted to hold out her hand and start sparking blue electricity, asking if ‘Nikki’ could do something similar, but in the long run scaring Ali off could prove to be a bad thing. Fun, but not very smart. Instead, Elle let that scenario play out in her mind and a smile developed.
“Lawrence, Kansas. I’m guessing you’ve never been.” She put her hands on her hips. “It’s not a prank, I swear. Unless it’s a really huge and elaborate prank involving killer special effects.”
There was the matter of showing Ali to a complex. There would be people there who could take her off of Elle’s hands and explain the scenario in a way that she might believe. Having the face of one of Ali’s enemies wasn’t doing anything for the development of trust between the two girls. Also, truthfully? Explaining things was giving Elle a headache and she hadn’t even gotten to the nitty gritty details yet.
“Come on, I know a place. Safe-house, whatever...” The two of them hadn’t exactly bonded like BFF’s, so Elle avoided taking Ali by her hand. Instead, she gave the other girl a little nudge on the shoulder and motioned for her to follow.
