WHO: Raven and Cal
WHAT: Arriving at the apartments that Sam mentioned
WHERE: Apartments
WHEN: Night
Rating: low
STATUS: complete

There wasn't much to think about when it came to checking out the apartments that Sam mentioned. If she sensed anything bad she would just leave before anyone noticed. One thing she knew was that when in another dimension, it is good to find a safe place to meditate and figure things out. It had been a while since she had visited another dimension, and this one was much different than Azarath. Raven took flight, making sure to cover herself with shadows so she was not seen by any of the people below. Most of them seemed harmless. Though their emotions were typical, the evil in the air made her feel uncomfortable with everyone there. Seeing the street that Sam told her, Raven slowly descended, trying to keep herself as in the dark as possible.

Raven pulled her hood over her head and makes her way down the street towards an apartment building. She checked the address and it matched the one that Sam gave her. From what she could tell, there was nothing to worry about there. She approached slowly and knocked on the door.

Cal was just getting home from work, well, work and a run around the block, half-amused at himself that his inner voice had begun to sound like Niko, which he took as proof that he hadn't gone crazy just yet. He was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and had his hair pulled back in a stubby ponytail.

He blinked twice, then smiled, shaking his head as he said: "Don't think anyone's going to answer." A shrug, "Security might, but since I'm here I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say someone sent you here on purpose?" A small, almost wry smile, "I base this observation on the fact that if you're selling cookies, you're the tallest girl scout I've ever seen."

She almost cracked a smile at the jokes, not so much because Raven felt they were funny, more because he reminded her of Beast boy. She stared at Cal for a moment, taking in much more than anyone could have imagined.

"Someone named Sam gave me the address," she pivoted so she was facing the man, "You live here?"

She kept her hood pulled so that only her eyes were visible. Still unsure of things here, she wasn't about to take too many chances.

"I do." He wasn't sure he liked the way she was looking at him, George looked at him like that sometimes, and George was a Seer, one of the few real Seers in his world.

He shook off the unease however, nodding once, "Yeah, apparently he's one of the people who set the place up, I haven't met him myself, guess you got filled in on what's going on around here?" He punched his entry code in, swinging the door open and waving her through, "C'mon, we can see if security's up, otherwise we can find you an empty room, get you settled. Most of the places are pretty bare-bones, but it's better than nothing."

Raven noticed the man's unease, something that no demon would show unless things were going badly. As she entered with him, she lowered her hood, revealing her pale but gorgeous face, hoping it would allow the man to feel more at ease. "He did seem to be the leader type."

"This is not your world either is it?"

Cal definitely wasn't a demon, he wasn't entirely human, being half-Auphe, but demon was off the list.

He shook his head at the question, tugging the tie out of his hair and ruffling a hand through it, relieving the tension on his scalp, "Nope, I'd say it's nothing like mine, but it'd be a lie."

A scoff then, at himself, really, offering a hand, "I'm Cal, and apparently I left my manners back home, or in my other pants or something."

"Raven," she replied and with a little help from a tiny Starfire's coaxing, she lightly placed her hand in his. "So far, this one isn't too different from mine."

She looked around vaguely as they walked, not taking much in though. She was more making sure to keep her senses up. The strongest emotion around so far seemed to be longing for things. Nothing unusual. Probably just a couple people who like each other but not admitting it. Similar to how Robin and Starfire are.

Raven was never good at being too social. Beastboy got onto her a lot for that, so she now only hoped the guy wasn't being creeped out by her for some reason.

Cal's brother was dating a vampire, their only real friend was a Puck, he was a little more difficult to give the heebies to than that. Cal wasn't all that good at being social either, he was just pretty good at faking it.

He nodded, "Nice to meet you, looks like the watch room's all locked up, so either someone's having a meeting or we're running on our own for an hour or two while people catch up on sleep." He shrugged, "Which looks like it's up to me to help you out, if you want the help."

Nodding in response to his pleasantries, she thought for a minute and replied, "Only if you aren't too busy. I can wait for someone else if you are."

There was no need for her to be a burden to him. She was new here so she felt as though she had no right to complain since he had already been kind enough to assist her this far.

He smiled crookedly once more, "Lemmie check my planner" He leafed through an imaginary datebok, hemming and hawing, just for a moment before shrugging and snapping it closed, miming dropping it back into a pocket, "Looks like I'm free for the next, oh, eight to twelve hours."

She raised an eyebrow as Cal flipped through his imaginary planner, but then allowed herself a faint smile that went away soon after appearing.

"Works for me." Despite the awkwardness of their meeting, Raven was finding Cal to be comfortable to be around and had a certain measure of happiness that she wasn't going to be required to talk to anyone else that night.

"So, do you prefer downstairs for a quick getaway? Or upstairs for more security?" Cal didn't ask the same sort of housing questions most people did, apparently.

He shrugged, "Personally I like somewhere in the middle floors, so that I don't break anything vital if I have to use the window as an exit, but still high enough up to be out of the line of fire if anything goes down on ground-level."

"Higher up, with access to the roof if possible," which she wanted, not so much for security purposes, more for the fact she liked meditating on the roof back home.

He nodded, "I'm pretty sure there's a few up that high, you good with stairs?" It wasn't that he didn't trust the elevators, they worked, it was more that he didn't trust the reflective doors on the elevators, but he could suck it up and deal if he had to.

Raven nodded and followed Cal, thinking mostly he was still in exercise mode. She had met him after he was running. Stairs really were no problem, for if she got tired she could just levitate the rest of the way.

He was glad that he was both avoiding the elevator and not having to explain why, he just nodded again, heading for the stairs. He didn't bound up them, just took them at a steady pace, "I don't really know how many of us there are, I kind of keep to myself, empty rooms have the doors open, you wanted near the roof, right? Couple more floors and we should be just about there."

As they got to the top, she looked around. She took note of his statement about which rooms were open and set her sights on a room that had no one in it, or the one next door to it, or even the one across from it. She approached this room and turned back to Cal, "This one will be fine." She didn't really have anything to unpack seeing as all her stuff was still in Titan Tower back in another dimension, so she just looked around the room for a bit.

"Thanks for helping me out, Cal."

"You're welcome." He said with a nod, "I'd give it an hour or two, go check up with security, someone'll probably be there they can give you a run-down on things, get you set up with everything else."

A shrug, "And people here are pretty helpful, if you need anything, just ask."

She nodded, "I will." She pulled her hood back over her head and moved to the door, "I suppose I'll see you later."
