Florence rolled her eyes as he told her not to read anything into his behaviour, but she was smiling just the same. Because it was just so completely Freddie. Always defensive, always ready to make sure people knew he was on top. It wasn't his least attractive quality, and instead just made her shake her head and shrug her shoulders. Which just made her grateful she wasn't wearing shoulder pads. Ew.
She took the seat across from him, staring down at the little paper cup of coffee. It almost made her miss the old places they used to go, where coffee came in an actual mug. She'd missed so much. She couldn't even pretend nothing had changed even when he was acting exactly as he used to.
But then he turned around and acted nothing like he used to. It was like listening to a different man, and Florence glanced up with a hint of a smile on her face. Caring about others? Putting thought into his actions. Maybe they were at the end of the world, but it seemed as if it might be doing him some good. And she liked it. At least if they were all about to die, one of them would be a better person for it. It just might not be her.
She shook her head at the offered cookie, but automatically reached out and broke off a small bite. It was just how they worked. "I'm fine," she replied, finding she actually meant it. "When Roger mentioned the complex being guarded against demons, I thought he was full of it. I don't know, part of me still thinks I'm going to wake up and think I dreamt it all. Come on, two people who look like you?" She grinned a little and tilted her head. "Everyone here seems pretty nice, though. Well, aside from the soul-stealing demons and all."
