Well there she was agreeing with him. And for a second it felt...well not comfortable but less awkward than it had been. He wanted to see her safe, on some level wanted to keep her safe even if he didn't want her back, so coffee seemed like the way to go about making that happen. He would explain what she needed to know. Not all of it. Keeping some things to himself would keep her needing him. At least for a while. And he found he really liked that feeling. She still looked awkward though. Like she wasn't sure he should be there.
"No harm can come from coffee right? So we go, I show you a bit of Lawrence we act like some kind of exes that know how to get along. Maybe its this place but even with everything between us I don't want to fight. I've been here too long to fight with you over something stupid like that. You know what you did, and you know how I feel about it. But what's happening out there? Its a million times more important and you're gonna need a friend. Or in the absense of a friend, an ex that doesn't like you a hell of a lot but wants to make sure you don't die."
There. That was friendly wasn't it.
As for if coffee had changed in 30 years, Freddie laughed. "Yeah I thought that too, but there's kinds, like a million different kinds. There's this place, Starbucks, pretty much only kicked off in Seattle a few years back for us but they're everywhere now. And they do every kind of coffee you can think of. And about a million that you can't. Its not the worst place in the world we've ended up apocolypse notwithstanding. Least its America." Of course that wouldn't mean as much to his Hungarian ex pretending to be a Brit. But she really should be more greatful to America, it had given her so much of her career, especially when she'd met him.
He nodded toward the door moving toward it, it was automatic that he assumed she'd follow, she always had up until Merano. He'd decide something and she'd argue her heart out but eventually go along with it to keep him happy. He was curious to see if that had changed along with everything else between them.
